A few hours later, after unpacking what felt like a million boxes I give up because I'm tired and a little starving. I'm sure Mom is too so I look over at her.

"Mom, can we stop unpacking all our junk and get something to eat?"

She laughs and says "It's not junk, and I'm glad you say that because the head nurse at the hospital I'm going to work at invited us over for dinner. She lives here in Beacon Hills and has a son around your age."
A skeptical expression washes over my face and Mom notices it right away.

"C'mon sweetie, let's give them a chance. She seems really nice, and besides, I think it'll be good for us to make some new friends."

Great exactly what I need, a chance to make a fool out of myself in front on my mom's boss. I think about this, contemplating what could be both good and bad.

It couldn't be that bad and I really am starving so why not?

"Sounds good Mom," I say and hurry up the stairs eager to go change.

Well there wasn't much options since everything is pretty much still packed up. So I just went with some light blue jeans, a plain white t-shirt, converse, and a comfy cardigan. My go to outfit. It's not like I'm trying to impress anyone. Wait a sec, what if her son is cute? Really Scarlett, your seriously thinking about that? I shake that ridiculous thought out of my head. The last thing I need right now is to worry about a boy. I'm doing this for Mom. Plus I'm not gonna stress myself out and make this any harder than it needs to be.

Before I know it evening has arrived and we drive up to a huge house. As we begin to approach the house I start to feel really nervous. First impressions are really important and c'mon who isn't nervous when they are about to meet new people? I brush off the feeling and adjust my outfit and hair one last time in the reflection of the glass window.

"Coming!" A woman shouts followed by the clicking of heels, the door swings open. "Hi, I'm Melissa McCall,"she says with a warm smile, while sweeping her arms welcoming us inside. "I'm so glad you could make it." The house is very nice, with a open entry way leading to the kitchen. I glance around taking in the house. "Well thank you so much for having us Melissa," my mom replies. "I'm Claire and this is my daughter Scarlett." I smile amd give Melissa a small wave.

"Aww, she so beautiful," Melissa says with a wink. "She looks just like you Claire."

"Alright, whos ready for dinner?"
Melissa ushers us into the dining room, I take a seat next to Mom and have a look at the table. Wow, Melissa really went all out for us, she must have a big family with a table this huge. I wonder where her son is, who am I kidding it doesn't even matter. I wonder if she had guess over often, I don't see her husband anywhere. Before I begin to draw anymore conclusions Melissa serves us dinner.

"So how are you liking school here Scarlett?" Melissa asks while passing the salad.
"I..uhhh actually haven't started yet, I start on Monday." I answer shyly, trying to avoid the subject.
I hate it when people draw attention to me.

"You seem like such a smart girl, wish my boy was like that," Melissa chuckles while looking at Mom, "You and your husband must be so proud of her."

"Oh we are, well I am," Mom quickly answers, "I'm actaully divorced."
I can see Mom struggling with the question. It's been awhile since my parents separated, but it still hurts her, and I hate that.
It broke her down, and me too. But ever since then, I promised that I would always be strong and there for her, no matter what. Something HE clearly couldn't do. I vowed that I would do anything I can to keep us happy.

"I'm so sorry,"Melissa stammers. "I'm divorced too, it's actually just me and my son Scott."

I begin to think about the night my dad left, and tears begin to well in my eyes. Oh no, I will not cry. Not here, not now.  I push the unwanted feelings away, and try to leave and avoid a breakdown. There's a slight awkwardmess lingering so I decide to try and escape the table, before any tears can fall.

"Uhhh...anyways Ms. McCall may I use your bathroom really quick?" I stammer.
Melissa kinda snaps back from her thoughts, "Of course sweetie, it's upstairs, second door to the right."

I quickly dash up the stairs. As I begin to turn the corner, a conversation begins.

"C'mon Scott, please, it'll be really quick, I swear, my dad's been on this case for weeks..."

Case!? What kind of case? This intrigues me so I listen closer. My ear is inches from the opening of the door, smooth wood brushes against my skin.

Another boy answers calmly, "No Stiles, I can't. My mom has guests over, now's not a good time."

I peek inside and see a boy, I'm guessing is Stiles, flail his arms as he speaks. "OH MY GOD, Scott it can't wait."

"Yes it can," Scott reassures him, patting him on the shoulders.
Stiles glares at him, his hands up mocking defeat, "Fine, fine, but if anyone dies, it's on you.
Scott laughs and rolls his eyes.

Dies?!? Why would someone d-
Before I can even finish my thought, the bedroom door swings open. I freeze, paralyzed to the ground in an awkward crouch and fear to look up. I can already feel the blood rushing to my cheeks.

Quickly I jump up to try and leave but end up face to face with one of the boys.

"Uhhh...hellooo, I was..just looking for the bathroom," I blurt out. "I don't mean to bother you." My cheeks burn with embarrassment. I look down and awkwardly pull at my sleeves. Gosh, I feel like such an idiot.

Scott clearly seeing the embarrassment on my face genuinely smiles. "It's okay, you must be Scarlett, Scarlett this is my buddy Stiles."

I look over at Scott. He has kind eyes and a crooked jaw, he already seems so nice. Then I glance over at Stiles. He has hazel eyes that seem to be taking in everything like some sort of detective, he also has a sprinkling of moles across his face, and some really great hair that is so messy with gel that it's  cute. He gives me a small wave along with a crooked smile. Wow, he's cute, his eyes...and his little nose... I quickly snap out of it, as if they could hear my thoughts. I blush again.

"Great, nice to meet you." I smile at both of them and turn around to head back downstairs. As I walk I silently pray that I do not fall down the stairs and embarrass myself any more than I already have.
