*Stiles POV*
Scarlett. Her name's Scarlett, huh.
Why would she be listening in on our conversation? As we begin to walk down the steps I stop to ask something. My hand releases it's grip as my fingers tap the railing.
"Yo, Scotty, who is she?" I ask. The fact that someone just randomly pops in from a another city, right when some crazy supernatural stuff is going on puts me a little on edge.
And yes, I know sometimes I tend to find everyone suspicious, but I'm usually not wrong. I can feel it.
Scott is already a few steps ahead of me, but stops and turns around to face me, his arms become slightly crossed, he's apparently surprised at my sudden interest to this girl.
"I'm not really sure Stiles. All I know is that she is the daughter of one of my Mom's new co-workers at the hospital. Why? You don't think she's bad do you?" Scott looks over at me, with a slight roll of his eyes, he mocks me.
"No...no of course not, I'm just curious." I say with a shrug. Embarrassment suddenly takes over, as I begin to feel that I'm wrong.
"Curious? Right." Scott says, "of course you are. Does the fact that she's kinda cute and awkward like you make you curious about her?" He gives me a sly smile.
Heat rushes to my face as I awkwardly rub the back of my neck, "No Scott, that does not. I just find it a little...I don't know... weird that she just popped up out of nowhere." I stammer, trying to change the subject.
Sure she was kinda cute. With her light brown hair and tiny frame. But I couldn't really see her eyes, since she was so nervous that all she did was stare at the floor. But that is definately besides my point.
I cross my arms, deep in thought. Could I be wrong about her? Footsteps continue down the stairs as Scott hurries off to the kitchen. I snap back and dash down the stairs right behind him.
Melissa and the girl's mother are seated in the living room. Laughter fills the space as they both chat, with wine in hand. There seems to be no sign of Scarlett anywhere. I wonder where she went?
Just as I'm about to reach the final step, my feet decide to totally turn on me. In an effort to avoid the slip up, I reach for the railing. But instead my arms just begin to flail everwhere and I end up face to face with the floor.
*sound of slippery wood* *THUMP*"Stiles! Are you alright?!" Melissa shouts from across the room. She's already upright, eager to come and see if I'm hurt. Everyone turns at me, each one slightly suppressing a laugh.
"Me? Yeah...no I'm fine." I quickly get up, and brush my sweaty palms on the side of my pants. I glance around, trying to make it seem like nothing happened. Looks like I just made a fool out of myself. Again.
"Are you sure?" she says, easing back into her seat. "Please be more careful next time." She looks over at Scarlett's mom, "Boys will be boys," she says with a chuckle and they continue talking.
Growls escape my stomach, I'm so hungry. I make my way over to the kitchen. The delicious aroma of warm pasta fills my nose, along with crisp, fresh salad. Everything looks really good so I begin to eagerly fill up my plate. Warm bread rolls are on the side. Can't forget those. I grab a few, and take a big bite out of one.
I take a seat next to Scott at the table. To my surprise Scarlett is there. She looks up, a small smile spreads across her face, but quickly fades as she shys away again.
Hunger takes over before I have a chance to say something to her. I dig into my pasta, twirling the fork so the noodles wrap around it, I place it in my mouth and slurp the noodles.
"Uhhh...Stiles?" Scott chuckles, "slow down there buddy." I look up, and a noodle dangles from my mouth. Scarlett laughs, amused by my childlike eating habits. With the back of my sleeve I wipe my mouth. "Right sorry."
I look over at Scarlett. Her eyes drift around the room, but meet mine. Turns out they're light brown, like honey. There's a little sparkle to them, even in the dimly lit room. My heart skips a beat, so I quickly look away.
"So Scarlett, are you going to be going to Beacon Hills High?" Scott asks, and I focus my attention on him.
She looks over at him, pushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Yeah I am, I'm starting this week."
"Really? that's great! You know this week is our first lacrosse game of the season, you should come!" Scott says cheerily. "I'm the team captain."
"Lacrosse huh? That's like angry field hockey right?" She laughs. "I'd love to go. Do you play Stiles?" She asks with a smile.
"Yeah I play. And I'm getting good. Really good." That's a lie, I stink. I couldn't play even if my life depended on it. If sitting on a bench counted as playing, heck I'm an all-star.
Scott rolls his eyes and laughs. "Yeah he's one of the best players we got," He says while patting my back.
"Well then, looks like I have to see you guys in action. I'll be there for sure." She says with a content head nod.
Scarlett's mom gets up from her seat and makes her way to the front door. I guess they'll be leaving now.
"Bye Melissa, Bye Scott. Thank you so much for having us." Scarlett's Mom says with a wave, while embracing Melissa.
"No problem, you're welcome." Melissa says.
"Well looks like that's my cue to leave, it was nice meeting you guys." Scarlett says with a smile as she leaves her seat. She makes eye contact with me one last time before heading out the door. It's like she's saying things with her eyes, but I just can't put my finger on what.
I can't let her leave just yet. "I better get goin' too Scotty, my dad will be gettin' home late today from the station." With that I spring out of my seat after her. I don't even know what I want to tell her, but I know I have to say something.
A cool rush of air brushes my face, welcoming me into the late autumn afternoon. The rustling of the trees sprinkle small maple leaves to the ground.
"Hey Scarlett I just- Damnit." I mutter under my breath.
I'm too late. The small convertible has already driven off into the winding road to who knows where.
"Well looks like it can wait until tomorrow then." I sigh, arms crossed.
I walk over to my jeep and hop in. My mind swirls with a million different thoughts. What was I gonna tell her? Did I even have something to say? Must be something important if I ran after her like that. I must've look really stupid.
Eventually I clear my thoughts and begin the journey home. There's nothing like late night drives, even if they are alone. The light from the moon illuminates the street, and the hum of the engine is so soothing.
But no matter what, my mind still floats back to her. This is crazy I think to myself, what am I doing? There must be something about her. I need to find out what it is.
Wow, okay so that's that chapter. What do you think Stiles wants to tell Scarlett? Do you think he's crazy or onto something? Trust me guys there's more to come. I know it seems slow but it'll build up to something. Don't forget to comment down below!!💕 Thanks again for reading:)
