I tried to make a run for it, following Astrea's example, but my mom grabbed my arm, plopping me down on the couch. "Now don't try anything, Babypie, I only want what's best for you." she said, keeping a hand on my arm. "Xavier!" she screamed, and I heard a door slam upstairs. My breathing quickened, and I started struggling.
Xavier was my big brother, and he only emerged from his room like once a week to restock his mini fridge. He was hulking, really tall, a beast really, and he worked as a security guard at the meanest prison in the county during the summers.
I heard a set of heavy footsteps tromping down the stairs, and soon enough, I saw a head of dark hair on
top of a bulky, six-foot-five frame coming into the room. He completely dwarfed my five-foot-six figure.
"What's up, mom?" he asked, deep voice practically shaking the house.
"I need you to keep your brother from running away," she said.
"Why?" he asked, raising a single heavy brow.
"He's crazy," she said.
"What?" I said incredulously, "that's really not a good re-"
"Shut up!" Xavier said, walking towards me. My mom let go of my arm, and I quickly stood up and took about two steps before I felt a huge hand clamp down on my arm.
"Where do you think you're going?" Xavier asked me, yanking me back down onto the couch.
"Man, your hand is the size of a small dog!" I said, staring at my upper arm, sweat breaking out on my forehead. "Maybe we can talk this out-"
"Shut up," he said again, and I snapped my teeth together, not exactly wanting to get slugged into next Tuesday, two black eyes and some broken teeth would mar my beautiful face.
My mom and Bella had gone into the kitchen, and my mom's muffled voice carried into the room where I was sitting stiffly on the couch, dreading what was going to happen.
"Okay Sweetiepie," my mom said quietly, "You're going to be going away for a while, we're going to head out now, everything's arranged already."So that's what she's been doing, I thought.
"Xavier, take him to the car please," she said, shooting me a small, sad smile.
"Get your sausage fingers off me, you big oaf, I'm not going anywhere!" I said, sinking further into the couch.
My mom walked off somewhere into the house, and Xavier shot me a grin, showing me his teeth that were filed into points. That's terrifying.
"Okay, whatever you say," he said.
I took a breath of relief as he released me, but my temporary calm was destroyed as he threw both of his arms around my waist, lifting me into the air as if I weighed nothing more than a child.
"Hey, what the heck you stupid peanut-brained idiot!" I yelled, slamming my fists into his back as he tossed me over his shoulder. He didn't even react.
He carried me out to stand by the car, and I just went limp, giving up. "At least this can't get any worse," I muttered staring at the gravel of my driveway far below.
A sudden crack of thunder echoed through the sky, and rain abruptly started pouring, soaking my clothes in a matter of seconds. "Of course!" I screeched at the sky, glaring at the heavy clouds that had appeared out of nowhere.
I wiggled over a bit to peer back towards the house, seeing my mom rushing towards us, umbrella held high. When she arrived to the place where we were, breathing heavily, she started talking.
"Oh, and Sweetcakes," she said hesitantly, "you're going to have to leave your phone here."
"NOOOOO!" I wailed, slamming my face into Xavier's shoulder.
