We drove through the rain in silence, I was stuck in the back seat, wedged between a giant statue of santa and a painting of Jesus Christ on his cross. Just my luck.
I tried to ignore Jesus staring at me as we drove.
We eventually pulled up to this huge building, with walls covered in light stone and big windows that were probably made of plexiglass.
I huffed and jumped out of the car, storming up to the building, not wanting to be carried by Xavier again. I was not a freaking toy!
The glass doors opened automatically, and I walked into this big, cheery reception room with paintings of suns and bunnies and all sorts of fluffy and happy things on the walls.
Different posters graced the walls, with sayings like "We're crazy about you staying with us" and "talking to yourself is okay, answering back is risky."
I scowled at the person standing behind the front desk and she shot back a sickly-sweet smile that almost dripped syrup and sugar. I immediately hated her.
I heard the dry scrape of the doors opening behind me and listened to my mom walking inside. The doors closed again and we were once again submerged into silence.
"Name please?" the lady - Becky, her nametag said - asked in a nasally and high pitched voice.
My mom looked over at me as if she actually expected me to answer, but I just turned my head away and strutted over to the bookshelf in the corner, having no intentions of actually reading any of them.
"I'm sorry about him, he's going through some problems right now," I heard my mom tell Becky.
"That's completely understandable," she replied. I snorted loudly, causing them both to turn around and stare.
"What am I, a TV?" I asked, scowling. They kept staring, so I flipped my imaginary hair and threw my arms up, starting to do a belly dance, shaking what my betraying mother gave me.
They both turned back to each-other and I heard my mom say "Lukas Fletcher."
