Maine headed down for a quick coffee run that afternoon. She had a pile of work left unattended and couldn't afford to be gone for long, but she needed her coffee fix and her favorite coffee delivery no longer sent her a regular one since he left her a few weeks back.
Before she started to feel sad, she wiped her tears and headed out the cafe. As she passed by the other coffee shop, she stopped in her tracks when she saw Alden laughing at one of the tables with another girl.
He and his companion turned to look at the girl staring at them through the glass windows.
"Shit," Maine berated herself and quickly walked away.
She heard familiar heavy footsteps behind her but she kept walking. "Maine, sandali."
"Maine!"
Walk. One foot, then the other. That's it.
"Meng, teka naman baka madapa ako"
That stopped her in her tracks and she let out a chuckle. She turned.
Regrettably, she noted that he was at least a couple feet away but this was the closest they had been in weeks and, for now, it was enough.
"How are you?" He asked.
"Okay naman. I - I have to rush back, ang daming work kasi. Sorry to interrupt your date."
"Hindi yan date. First day niya sa office, ako yung buddy niya to show her around, tapos sabi ni Boss magkape na din kami," Alden explained. "I'll walk you to the office?"
"No na. Sabi mo nga may kasama ka."
"Pinauna ko na."
"Ha? Akala ko first day niya sa work?"
Alden smiled, "Oo. First day niya nga, pero hindi siya tanga. Alam niya yung way pabalik."
As they headed to the lift, he noted, "maga na naman yung eye bags mo. I told you sleep early."
"Hindi pa din kasi ako sanay na wala ka - uhm, na... natutulog mag-isa... I mean uhm," she stammered to reason.
"Ako din eh," he admitted, sighing. "I miss you."
"I miss you."
When the elevator dinged open to her floor, they stepped out and bid each other goodbye again. "I have to go in."
He nodded, "Balik na din ako sa office."
"Okay. Yung vitamins mo ha? Clogged na naman yang nose mo."
"Yes. Bibili na ako later. Tulog ka ng maaga ha?"
"Try ko."
Unable to stop himself, he pulled her in and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. They both teared up.
"See you."

That night, Maine went to bed early but still didn't fall asleep. While scanning her social media accounts, a call came in.
"Hi Maine. Sabi ko na gising ka pa."
"Sabi ko naman sayo I have a difficult time sleeping eh."
Alden sighed. "Hay kulit. Masama sayo ang laging puyat. Di ba? Sabi nung doctor mo? Speaking of that, nakabalik ka na for check up if low blood ka pa?"
"Next week pa."
"Sige, samahan - uh... balitaan mo nalang ako ng results ha?"
That hurt Maine but she didn't let on.
Still, he knew. He felt exactly the way she did.
"Question lang," Maine started. "Tapos na talaga tayo? Meaning we can see other people?"
"I guess," he replied, bunching his sheets in his fist. "May... may gusto ka na ba i-date?"
"Wala naman. Just... was just wondering," she sighed. There were still so many things she wanted to ask, but she kept silent. "Late na. You should sleep."
"Yes. I guess. Uhm, sige. Good night."
They dropped the call leaving two sentences left unspoken.
I miss you.
I love you.
Still.

Note: Filler update. Hello! So, yeah. I've decided to finish this now that my inis is slightly gone and because my OC self won't let this end unfinished 😅 Also, because I need an outlet.
