A few months later...
Charlie's POV:
"I'm so glad you decided to come," Mrs. Lahey wrapped me in a tight, comforting hug. I pull her small frame close and softly rub her back.

"Of course," I mutter.
"Anytime you need me, I'm here."

She nods, her bottom lip quivering.
"It's upstairs," she nods behind her.
"I haven't been up there since..."

Her voice trails off, but she has no need to continue. I simply nod solemnly and head up the flight of stairs.

The door is closed. There is an uneasiness surrounding the room, almost an eery feeling. Slowly, I turn the knob and look around.

The bed is still neatly made, just as I'd imagined. The curtains are all drawn, allowing a dim light to be cast over the empty room. I take a few steps forward.

To my right, there is a desk. It is completely clean and tidy, aside from a notebook lying in the middle, perfectly square and almost tempting to peek inside. I recognize it immediately. She used to write in it all the time on the bus.

Carefully, I pick up the spiral and open it. On the very first page, I find the project she'd been working so hard on the whole tour.

The Heart Wants What It Wants

My breath hitches slightly and I stare at the words written neatly. My heartbeat quickens, as does my breathing as I begin to read over the lyrics.

You got me sippin' on something
I can't compare to nothing
I've ever known, I'm hoping
That after this fever I'll survive
I know I'm acting a bit crazy
Strung out, a little bit hazy
Hand over heart, I'm praying
That I'm gonna make it out alive
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
You got me scattered in pieces
Shining like stars and screaming
Lighting me up like Venus
But then you disappear and make me wait
And every second's like torture
Hell over trip, no more so
Finding a way to let go
Baby, baby, no I can't escape
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
This is a modern fairy tale
No happy endings
No wind in our sails
But I can't imagine a life without
Breathless moments
Breaking me down, down, down, down
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants
It wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants

Involuntary tears have gathered in my eyes. I put her through so much. She'd written her feelings in this song and as I sat here, on a dead girl's bed, listening to her mother weeping in the other room, tears flowed from my eyes. I start to sob loudly, but I didn't care. I clutch the book tightly to my chest, as if to feel her presence again, one last time.

One last time.

That's all I was asking for.

One last time...

Yes I know this is a Selena Gomez song.

But I'm a fanfic writer, not a songwriter, for a reason.

Thanks :)
