i sighed. i always seemed to do that often now, as if i was always disappointed. it's probably because i let my hopes up often.
my dad was curious as to why i was spaced out whilst trying to fix the computers, which was ineffective. he sent me home to take a nap and to look it up in the library the next day.
you can guess that i sighed when i walked out.
i tried to argue with my dad that i could look it up on google or something, but he only urged further. getting out would help me, to which i responded that i went out yesterday which clearly made it worse and he was the one who suggested me to go inside and sleep. he rolled his eyes and said i should read instead of being on my phone and told me i could meet people. i didn't argue this time, except sigh.

the library was always quiet.
the libray was a peaceful place. i pondered why i didn't come more often, especially during hard times at home. even though my parents are divorced for the better, stepmothers aren't better.
the library was about four blocks from my house. i walked there with headphones in, listening to indie as opposed to rap habitually.
i already felt a bit different altering things around. the library's cool air inside didn't make me feel much better.
i went straight to the electronics and guide section, browsing. books were so big, how was i supposed to find something so specific, so quick?
i picked a few books out and took it to a register. i brought it to a woman behind the counter named angela. her kind smile further made me get a weird vibe about the place.
she smiled when i asked her fairly simple questions, even if i was confused. she was checking the books out when i saw a small boy in the back room reading a book.
"who's that?" i asked angela when she was facing me.
"that boy in the back room? that's my son, jack," she stated, almost as if it wasn't the love of my life.
my soulmate.
i coughed, hoping to catch his attention. "may i please talk to him?"
"may i ask why, in particular?"
"i'm interested in what he's reading, and i could use friends around here. you guys must live near, right? and your family?"
"it's just me and jack, dear."
"oh... i'm sorry for the assumption."
"it's quite alright. you have a mother and father, i'm going to assume."
"stepmother, but yes. also have a mother," i answered.
"well, i'll see if he wants to chat," she began as she walked to the back. the little square glass separating us made us lock eyes again. he only looked down, and seconds later to his mother's eyes.
my eyes grew when things were less dull again. a flower pen, part of my book title, and pencils lit up. i observed them while she was gone.
she came back to where i stood without a cute boy following her. "i'm so sorry dear. he seems sick at the moment, i'm going to bring him home soon after my shift. you can come back tomorrow at the same time and i'll bring him for you. i'm so sorry, honey."
"it's fine, tell him i hope he feels better," i stated, brushing it off. "what color is this?" i asked, pointing to the pencil and to the sunflower pen.
"that's yellow, like taxis," angela responded. she must have continued, but i was too busy letting the word meander.
"huh?" i had zoned out. i flushed. "sorry."
"your name, dear. so i can tell jack who wishes for him to get better," angela assured.
"oh. it's finn. finn wolfhard."

i strolled home, not bothering to hurry. the boxes were a sort of burden, but i didn't mind much.
my thoughts wondered to the boy. i bet he went to school here.
i had came here year in the fourth quarter, and they gave me a yearbook and put my picture in it for free. they probably felt bad because it was my junior year of high school.
once i got home, i opened my yearbook. i had to find jack.
and i did.
his little yellow shirt and glowing face was surely my aesthetic.
jack grazer.
