It took a few days but Dragon's Edge was finally repaired after Dagur's surprise attack. After all the fixing up Liang has promised to tell the group everything; from what and who he is to what his world is like. As breakfast was cleared they all looked towards the young man.
"It's time Liang." Hiccup stated as the young avatar looked around then nodded. Getting up from his seat he walked to the door.
"I prepared a place for us to talk." He stated before leaving, the others following in suit. It took a few minutes before they arrived at a clearing which held a cave on the mountain side. Liang entree the cave then returned with some objects; laying them down in front of him he gestured for the riders to sit. All confusingly followed Liang's gesture and sat in front of the objects. Snoutlout went to pick one up but a gust of air thrown to him by a very calm Liang said not to; grumbling he crossed his arms knowing not to mess with a man who can control fire.
"These objects are scrolls that contain the information that will help me tell you everything." Liang looked up towards the group as he picked up a scroll. Unfurling revealed pictures of sorts. Placing that scroll down he began to tell the tale of the first avatar.
"Wait wait wait...You mean to tell me that people in your world used to live on these 'Giant Lion Turtles'??" Ruffnut exasperatedly asked in shock.
"I want to live on a Giant Lion Turtle! Liang, take us to one!" Tuffnut points a demanding finger towards the now giggling avatar.
"I wish I could Tuff but they have not been seen for thousands and thousands of years." He softly explains as he goes onto to continue. More questions were asked and answered as simply as possible.
"So, to our understanding; you are half human and half spirit..?" Fishlegs reinfers, questionably raising an eyebrow. Liang nods but then changes his reassurance.
"You are correct in a lame man's terms but there are more complexities but we'll just leave it as that." He finishes before pulling out another scroll.
"This scroll explains what an Avatar is and their duty to the world...it was there duty." Liang drifts off as he remembers all of those lessons. Not letting them show he continued his explanation.
"The Avatar is the only physical being with the ability to bend all four elements, it is considered the Avatar's duty to master the four bending arts and use that power to keep balance among the four nations of the world, as well as between mankind and spirits." He reads from the scroll,
"The four elements consist of Water, Earth, Fire, & Air." He looks up towards the group seeing there wheels turning for questions until one spoke up.
"Sssooo can you blow fire out of your mouth? Like a-" Tuffbut began before being interrupted by Ruffnut,
"Like a dragon!?" She finished after pushing her brothers face back nearly tipping him over.
"It is an old technique but yes, yes I can. There are also some other sub elements that I can control," Liang says while getting up. He walks back into the cave at comes back with a piece of armor.
"Hey! That's some of the armor we picked up from Berk!" Fishlegs loudly points out.
"Yes Fishlegs...we see that." Snotlout begrudgingly says while glaring at him. Liang goes on to present the armor before modeling it to fit his arm.
"Metal bending, the sub level of Earth. This also includes sand and lava," Liang states calmly but the hint of excitement in his voice as he looked upon his intriguing yet shocked group of comrades.
"Lava!? You can bend lava!" A weirdly happy shout from Ruffnut who gladly expressed her emotions with flailing her arms.
"Yes I could but I have barely used that bending in my training," A sweat drop formed on the young avatars face seeing her reaction.
His explanations and showings of the avatars powers continued. Going into detail about the nation in which these benders live, how they're personality can be represented by their bending, and each sub element. Nearing the end he begins to show them firebring. Closing his eyes, taking in a few deep breaths before opening them suddenly and producing a flame in the palm of his hand. He moves the flame in his hand, letting it grow before shooting it off into the sky above them. The bright embers falling gently before fading into smoke. The group of dragon riders stared up in awe; fire was quite common in there lives but they have never seen flames so controlled and beautiful.
"Wow..." Snotlout muttered under his breath
" That was ...extraordinary," a captivated Hiccup says in awe at the entirety of it all.
"Well I have to admit, Liang...That was pretty awesome." Astried admitted with an impressed tone reluctantly crossing her arms, a slight smirk on her face.
Liang was left tired but appreciative that they were all entertained. Finally being able to make a group of friends that enjoy his bending abilities. Unlike his original group...past those haunting memories he focused on clearing the area and sitting down.
"Well...that is all I have for today," Liang says while attempting to hide his weaker state. The group thanks him each in their odd and sometimes funny ways. Each leave shortly after except for a certain nightfury's rider.
"You can cut the act Liang," Hiccup sternly says while crossing his arms. The poor avatar wished he could deny the accusation but his body gives and he flops down onto a rock panting.
"All that talking and showing off tired me out somehow..." he explains steadily breathing. Hiccup sighs scratches his head then jokingly smirks.
"Maybe because you went all out on "Earth" and "Water"?" He sarcastically suggest as the avatar face palmed.
"Ah...that must be it..." he soon began to chuckle at the realization. Hiccup began to laugh as well; there laughter lasted a few seconds before fading.
"Well I'm definitely parched now." Liang says with a scratchy voice. The dragon rider gets up and walks into the forest then returning a short time later with a pouch full of water handing over to the tired male. Taking a swig from the pouch he drinks before pulling it away with a satisfied sigh.
"I'll be here for a few minutes so you should head down with the others. I fear the twins are going to attempt to bend with there dragons," Liang jokingly stated with a tired smile. Hiccup sits down next to him.
"I stayed behind to check on you but also to thank you," Hiccup sincerely said which caught Liang off guard.
"I'm the one thankful Hiccup. You all accepted me in and didn't chase me off the island and allowed me to explain who I am," He answered honestly with happiness in his voice.
"I've always been fearful of my abilities ever since I was deemed to be the avatar. I never really had people who cared about me not even friends...." he continues then drifts off remembering his "friends" back at the compound that he was trained and kept at. A grand castle of hostility and confinement. The echoey voice of the viking snapped him out of it.
"Liang? Is everything ok, you suddenly stopped talking and you just stared off at nothing." A worried Hiccup put his hand on Liang's shoulder.
"I'm fine Hiccup," He replied shaking his head slightly clearing out those dark memories before smiling softly. Hiccup still looks at him worriedly before removing his hand then sighing.
"I won't press you on but know that you can tell me anything," Hiccup states with a gentle smile that causes Liang to stand up and look at the sky.
"I know," he softly replies before walking off to the edge to follow the rest of the group to do his daily duties. Toothless walks up next to Hiccup and bumps his head against him.
"Oh hey buddy, guess I got caught up in the conversation," Hiccup jokingly says before petting his scaled friend.
"Liang is a pretty interesting guy don't you think?" Hiccup ask the dragon looking down at him. Toothless gives a simple roar in response to his question which Hiccup softly smiles.
"Yeah I think so to. Whatever reason he was brought to our world, he will be a great help to us." He admits to Toothless as they follow the rest of the islanders.
