— October 24th —
I watched as Nolan got escorted off the ice by the help of some trainers. Travis looked over at me from the bench with his eyes wide. I turned and shoved my camera into someone's chest that was in my station and bolted to the medical room. I knew they definitely hadn't gotten Nolan to the medical room yet due to how slow he was to even get up. I waited patiently outside the room until I saw Randy – one of the team physicians – pushing Nolan on a wheelchair. Nolan's eyes were screwed shut and I looked at him sadly.
"Nolan, Lila's here. Is that okay?" Randy asked and Nolan opened his eyes only for them to be closed once again. One sign of a concussion.
"Yeah, of course," He croaked out. I could hear the pain in his voice and it tore my heart. What hurt more was that I couldn't do anything to help him.
I opened the door for Randy to push Nolan in and Guy, another team physician, helped to get some of Nolan's gear off. When he was in his undershirt and shorts they lifted him onto the cot in the room and began their concussion testing. They had him follow a light which was fairly easy but then decided to take a further look and have him get an MRI done.
"I'm right here, Nol," I said quietly as they took him into the exam room. He looked back at me sadly but turned ahead to get into the room.
If Nolan had to stop playing I wouldn't know what to do with myself. It made me happy seeing him so excited and happy playing hockey. I don't know what would happen if he couldn't play anymore.
An agonizing twenty minutes later Randy walked Nolan back out to me. "He has a minor concussion. Nothing extremely serious but he wont be able to play for a few weeks," Randy said and I sighed, looking at Nolan pitifully.
"C'mon Nol," I said and grabbed Nolan's hand and took him out into the hallway. He was really quiet and it was strange. He was usually so talkative.
We got out to the parking lot and Nolan got into the passenger's seat. He grabbed my hand and rested it on the console causing me to smile slightly.
"Were you even allowed to leave Lil?" Nolan asked and looked over at me.
I shook my head. "Nope. Your place or mine?" I looked over at Nolan who had a small smile on his face as he shook his head.
"Mine, if you don't mind babe." He said and I nodded, him giving directions for me to get to his apartment. I've never actually been to his apartment before now that I think about it.
I parked in the parking garage and we both got out of my car. Nolan slung his arm around my shoulder lazily and he lead me to his apartment, eventually getting to his room and opening it up with his key.
It was really cozy, something I didn't really expect from Nolan. There were pictures of him and his sisters hanging up along with some of him with his mom, dad and uncle.
"Nol your apartment is so cute," I said and turned to face my boyfriend. Boyfriend. I don't think I'm going to get used to that anytime soon.
"Thanks babe," He said and chuckled. "Randy said I can't play for a few weeks and to avoid loud music, crowds of people and any exercise that could harm me. I'm able to watch TV but only for a short period of time."
I nodded and we sat down on the couch. Nolan turned the TV on and wrapped his arms around me, bringing me into his chest.
"I could get used to this," I mumbled into his chest and he kissed my head lightly. I wrapped my arms around Nolan's middle and rested my cheek on his chest.
The next morning I woke up and Nolan was already awake. He was on his phone that was resting on my back.
"Are you even allowed on your phone, love?" I asked him and he looked down at me and shrugged.
"Your phone was blowing up so I answered one of Travis' texts. You may want to call him," Nolan said and I got up from my comfortable position.
I grabbed my phone that was on the coffee table and examined the dozens of texts I had from almost every guy on the team.
Annoying Brother: where are you
Annoying Brother: Lila Marie Konecny answer your phone
Annoying Brother: just let me know you're safe
Annoying Brother: you completely disappeared. Nolan is okay. Only a concussion
Annoying Brother: hello lila
Travis, it's Nolan. Lila drove me back to my apartment and she fell asleep. She's okay
Annoying Brother: thanks nol. feel better bud
I groaned and ran a hand through my knotty hair. Travis was going to absolutely obliterate me when I got home.
"Nol, I'm gonna have to go soon. Travis is going to kill me," I said and he pouted and wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me back into him.
"Just stay a little longer babe," He whined and drug out the 'a' in babe. I kissed his cheek.
"I wish but I have to go. Text me if you need me," I pecked his lips and grabbed my keys before leaving his apartment.
I drove back to Travis and I's house and pulled into the driveway, baring myself for the argument that was most likely going to break out. I went inside and some of the boys were over.
"How's Nolan?" Sanheim as I went into the living room. I pursed my lips.
"He's... okay. A little out of it but he'll be okay. No telling when he's going to be playing though. Also Trav please don't yell at me I just fell asleep at Nolan's," I quickly added on and Travis nodded.
"As long as I know you're with Nolan and not wandering it's fine Lils."
