Nol and I went back downstairs to get prepared for dinner. Nolan went to the living room to watch some of his old hockey games with his dad and Uncle. I went into the kitchen to see if Nolan's mom needed any help.

"Mrs. Patrick, do you need any help?" I asked as I watched her cook dinner. She turned and smiled at me.

"Oh Lila theres no need for formalities, you're dating my son for goodness sake! Bless your soul, I didn't think any girl would be able to handle him—" She began but Nolan was heard yelling from the other room.

"I heard that, Mom!" He yelled and I laughed.

"Anyway," She laughed and turned back to me. "Just call me Carrie. It's easier honey."

I nodded and walked over to her. "Let me help you somehow, it's the least I can do Carrie." I said and she scanned around the kitchen.

"Can you help me peel potatoes? We can talk while we do so," she said and I nodded, standing next to her to help her. She handed me a peeler and we began. "So how did you and Nol meet?"

I chuckled back at the memory. Nolan was so nervous that day, even I could tell. "Well I went to one of the boys' practice. My brother is on the team – Travis, Travis Konecny – so I often end up going to some practices. Then I was offered a photographer job so I was around a lot more and got to know Nol." I said and smiled at the memory. It seemed like so long ago but in reality it was only three months.

"I just want to thank you, Lila. Nolan can be a difficult kid sometimes, especially when he gets upset and angry. So thank you," She smiled at me and I nearly awe'd out loud. Carrie was extremely sweet.

"He's patient with me so I'm patient with him. It's only fair. I don't know if he's told you but I have type one diabetes so often I'm in a funk when my levels aren't right," I said and she nodded in understanding. Within the next twenty minutes I got to know Carrie more and a couple minutes later we were setting dinner up at the table.

Nolan came into the room followed by everyone else. He kissed his Mom's cheek and then kissed mine.

"Thank you," He said quietly and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"For what?" I asked and he shook his head, going to sit down at one of the open seats. I sat down next to him and everyone began taking their food.

"Lila, where're you from?" Steve asked and I looked up at him and smiled.

"London, actually. My brother plays for the Flyers so I moved down into Philly with him," I said and he nodded.
