Someone New

Two days later...

I have been regretting this day all summer. It was volleyball try outs. My mom thought it would be a good idea to make new friends to try and help me move on from the loss. As if she has moved on herself.

I walked into the two gym doors. I haven't been on this end of the school since the Fall of sophomore year in PE. I don't want to recap on those days.

As I walked in everyone seemed to know what they were doing, except for me and this other girl. She must have been forced into this like me. As I walked over in her direction I could see she was even shorter than I was. She had short brown hair and brown eyes that actually looked good together. I sat down next to her...

"Hey, I'm Jorie Night."

"Hey, I'm Megan Spears" she said seeming kind of shy. Her voice was higher pitched, but I bet she's crazy once you get to know her. I've never seen her around school before.

"Are you new here?" I asked.

"Not here in Farmington, but new to the school. I was homeschooled but my parents thought it would be a good idea to go to public school before college."

Farmington is a smaller town in California.

"Oh cool. Are you good at volleyball?"

"Not at all. They forced me into this too!"

I laughed.

"Wow we have something in common there" I stated. "Maybe I can be your first friend here in Farmington High. There's not many openings left for other friend groups so you better take my offer fast." I sounded kind of desperate but I needed someone to entertain me for these long three hours.

"Sure" she said and laughed.

Three hours went by of long, brutal tryouts that only reassured how out of shape I was. Not to my surprise I didn't make a team, neither did Megan. But we did get to know a lot about each other during those three hours.

I learned that she likes the Magcon guys like I do, maybe a little more than me but I can get over her obsession. She's an only child and has two parents who fight a lot. She usually goes to this pond a couple miles out when they are fighting, she told me should could bring me there some time.

We exchanged numbers and then went home.

The next morning...

A text from Megan..
: Hey we should hang out sometime before school starts again!!

I respond..
: Ya sounds good!(:

From Megan..
: How bout my place so I can show my parents I made a new friend haha!(;

I respond..
: Ya that's cool lets do it this weekend cuz I'm driving down to San Diego later next week!!

From Megan..
: YAYAYA can't wait see you soon!

We text for a few more minutes before she had to go.
