"Stella, Stella come on, get up," a voice said, before I felt something hit my face. Really hard.
I jerked awake. "ZACKARY SMITH CONNORS, YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!" I yelled, jumping right out of bed. My brother had already bolted out of my room, but I chased after him anyways.
He ran to the kitchen and held up a frying pan to defend himself. "Don't come any closer, foul beast!" Zack shouted.
I gasped. "You didn't!" I lunged after him, hands ready to choke him out, but an angry voice stopped us.
"Do you guys realize how early it is?" Dad's stern voice was a whisper as he walked closer to us. Zack and I look at each other before looking at the clock on the stove across the kitchen.
3:56 a.m. Oops.
"Well, it's not like I wanted to be up this early!" I protested. "Zack barged into my room and hit my face with a pillow!"
Dad raised his eyebrow at me and turned to look at Zack. "Is this true, son?"
Zack smirked. "Guilty as charged," he said.
Dad held up his hand at Zack like he was going to smack his head, but instead he said, "Gimme five, son."
My jaw dropped in disbelief as they high-fived, then proceeded to do some over-the-top handshake.
"Whatever," I groaned. "I'm gonna get some rest for the first day of school. Zach, I suggest you do the same." I stomped back into my room and plopped onto my bed, letting out an exasperated sigh.
By the time my alarm went off at 6, it felt as though I had not fallen back asleep at all. I grumbled as I hit the dismiss button, not wanting to face the day ahead of me. Something told me that it was going to be long and maybe, just maybe, a little stressful. I mean, what more can you expect of the first day of junior year?
I eventually dragged myself out of bed and made my way to Zack's room. I peeked in, and to my satisfaction, he was sound asleep. If his powerhouse snoring wasn't an indicator I don't know what would be. I smirked, rubbing my hands together. Revenge would be mine..
I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a glass, filling it to the brim with ice-cold water. I couldn't help but let out a small giggle of anticipation. I knew this was about the oldest trick in the book, but hey, it was good enough to make it in the book in the first place, am I right?
When I was finally standing over Zack with the glass of water, I stopped to think about how mad he'd be at me afterwards. Heck, he'd probably be mad the rest of the day.
That was motivation enough for me.
I dumped the freezing water right on his face, then dropped the glass on his bed and ran for my life.
"STELLA! WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK!!" Zack shouted. I could hear him stomping down the hallway not too long after. Suffice it to say, I was grinning like a fool. Mom and Dad, though? They didn't look too pleased as they stepped out of their bedroom.
"What is with him?" Mom asked as she scratched her head, irritation lacing her groggy voice. She looked to me for an answer. I wasn't able to form one before Zack ran up to us and scooped me up, throwing me over his shoulder.
"No, let me down, Zack!" I giggled as I pounded his back with my fists.
"I've gotta admit, sis," he said, twirling me around, his wet hair hitting my face. "As much as I hated waking up to that, I'm proud of you."
He carried me to my room and threw me onto my bean-bag chair. I screamed a short, high-pitched scream as I fell onto it. "I taught you well, sis," Zack said, before saluting and waltzing out of my room.

When we finally got to school, I ran up to my best friend, Kacey Carter, and started jumping up and down and squealing as I pulled her into a hug. Even though we had seen each other over summer break, we had still missed each other a lot.
I pulled away from the hug. "So, girl, how have you been?" I asked. "It's been so long!"
Kacey playfully rolled her hazel eyes. "Yes, a week is just an eternity," she giggled. I laughed and hugged her again, glad to have my best friend back. Even if it had been only a week since we last saw each other.
"Oh, serious eye-candy, 12 o'clock," Kacey whispered. "Looks like he's friends with your brother."
I turned around to see who she was talking about. I saw a cute guy walking with my brother and his group of friends.
I could tell right away that this new kid was a bad boy; what with his torn jeans, tight white T-shirt (that showed off his amazing abs I might add), piercing blue eyes, and a jawline that looked like it could cut some fruit.
Him and my brother and his group of friends kept getting closer to Kacey and I. By this point we were both full-on staring at the Greek god that was my brother's new friend.
Just once glance, and the new kid caught us looking at him. He smirked, and began walking towards me. My heart began pounding hard against my chest. I was so entranced that I hadn't even noticed when he was standing right in front of me.
"Hey," he said.
Wow, his voice was deep.
"I'm Seth. You're Zack's little sister, right?" Kacey's jaw was practically on the ground at this point.
"Hey, um, Stells, I think...I'm gonna go...talk to Anna," Kacey said, pointing in the direction of her sister. Great, now I was alone with an amazingly beautiful man, speechless.
Seth was staring at me, waiting for a response. I snapped out of my trance. "Um, yeah, hi. I'm Stella," I said, smiling and reaching my hand out for a shake.
Seth took it, his huge tan hand almost completely covering my own small pale one. I couldn't help but notice how warm his hand was.
I masked my disappointment when Seth dropped my hand. Wow am I a softie.
"So, um, I'm new here, in case you didn't notice," he laughed, a hearty chuckle that was music to my ears.
No, bad Stella! You can't be falling for him, not already!
"Your brother was just showing me the ropes," he said. "He's a pretty cool dude." He smiled, a perfect, bright smile that sent my heart fluttering.
"Y-yeah, he is," I stuttered, trying to smile back. Seth smirked yet again, and I could tell he knew he was having this effect on me.
"Well, I'll talk to you later, Stella," Seth said before jogging in the direction of Zack and his friends again.
I let out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding. I could already tell this was gonna be a long year.
