Author's Note: The Greek Pantheon is based off of the Ancient Greek Mythology. New to Ancient Greek Mythology there's an actual book with illustrated pictures called D'AULAIRES' BOOK OF GREEK MYTHS. This book has every mythological story known- plus it is more of a bedtime story instead of the encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Most libraries do have this illustrated book, if interested.
Persephone, Persephone, Persephone. The name keeps ringing in the head of goldilocks. Her ocean eyes widen. A name her mother had never called her. The name that betrays her. Persephone.
Her mother had told her for years that she had the name of Kore. Little one. Little maiden. However, Artemis is a kore also. The name means innocence. Ocean eyes decides to turn her attention back on her stepmother, Hera. Perhaps the Queen will know of the true meaning behind her immortality.
Young red continues to sip the honey tea for a moment. Her natural thin lips are wet and partly open in thought. There is something ominous about the name. It does not ring a bell, which is hard for anyone to believe. Practically coughing for attention, she glares at the queen. Hera frowns at the light of the younger beauty. Kore stares at the queen as she starts to speak in a soft tone. "What does Persephone, mean?"
The beautiful queen in a high wasted, maroon gown stares at me with a hint of jealousy. Her long black hair, wet and brushed is wavy. A few nymphs of hers is preparing the proper hair etiquette for their mistress and Queen. Her chocolate eyes narrow at the sight of one. She practically lashes at the first creature in her sight.
For a moment, she ponders on the thought of my name. After a few thoughts in mind, she rolls her eyes after repeating a strange name. Lord Hades. After the few moments of thoughts, she gives me a bratty smile with the impossible wink in her eye. "Oh some say that the name represents a shade of darkened blue." Almost chuckling at the whimpering nymph, Hera rolls her eyes once again thinking of a perfect insult for the little duckling. "And some others say that the name is unbearable to hear. That is why it is impossible to be given the name Persephone." She is shortly distracted by the mirror in front of her. For an odd reason, the queen has found a scratch underneath her left ear. The sight is better left unsought. Once again, the queen lashes out at the two nymphs in the bed chambers of hers.
As the three nymphs are whimpering, the older goddess chooses to inflict a beating instead of a verbal lashing. The nymph that is the nearest to her in the unluckiest. Hera's caramel eyes turn to a pitch shade of raven as she bear claws the bluish-grayish nymph. On the break of death. She boxes the ears of the poor thing.
And for a moment, the young kore thought she can trust her stepmother, Hera.
Still in a foul mood, the Queen stares at the young goddesses through the mirror on her glass vanity. Her eyebrows are perfect as she wipes her hand as a brush through the slick eyebrows in one quick motion. At the sight of the young thing on her bed still, the older goddess' eyes widen with fright. "By the way, your mother would have such a fit over this. Do keep this a secret between us."
Nodding her head, the child places the cup of tea on the nightstand. "Yes, queen." Goldilocks has no idea that the queen meant of the violence inflicted on her maidens, rather than the grave secret unleash. "By chance does father know?"
"Why would you ask such a question-" of course the duckling wouldn't know! The glossy woman sighs before continuing. How she wanted to rest such a fateful day! "Of course young kore. In fact every breathing creature knew since you were born during an awful century. You are the eldest daughter of the King of the Gods and Goddesses. Everyone spoke with your name with envy."
"You hurt those you envy, stepmother."
"I envy you but you are still here." Standing up from the vanity seat she scrawls the child's mockery of her. She points at the younger goddesses' nose with her own index finger. The young kore sniffles at the sight of Hera's attitude. "Well, you have a sharp tongue. I will forgive you since you are not in conception during my marriage, is that what you mean?" She places a wooden porcupine figurine on the vanity. The toy must be of significance to either her or her great scheme. Persephone has realized that the Queen has only invited her in order to gain false trust and information for her husband. Goldilocks is beyond troubled at this. "You are either a skillful child in eavesdropping, or you have a great understatement of people, I do note."
"You still hurt those that you envy anyways?"
"It wasn't long before the creatures from the depths of the Underworld to show their charcoal faces, golden eyelids and gem-like teeth. Quite hideous." Still chanting at the child's ceremony with new found mockery, the Queen forces herself to face the opponent. "Even I envied my brother's gift to you... the horse. Prances and trots around on the Earth. Your father forbids my arrival at your fields. I have no idea-" Giggling at her own sarcasm, the caramel eyed beauty starts to head towards the half grown, grape vine arch of the bedchambers. She starts to pluck the unripe fruits off the vines with a soulful facial expression. Nose cringed. Lips pursed. Eyes narrowed.
Little red starts to ponder for a quick comeback. She hops off the geese feathered bed with a puff as the mattress plops itself with air above her waist. Young Kore starts to rant off to the Queen without realizing who her stepmother was at the moment. This left the Queen a little surprise as well as a little anxious in empowerment. "You do well to damn anyone who crosses your path literal or not." Hera takes the handful of the unripe grapes of the vines and tosses onto the marvel ground in one hasty move.
The both of them squint as each other before the unnamed nymphs start to bent over between the two.Certainly these nymphs does not tend to keep the peace unlike the young kore's does on a regular basis. "You are so blunt Persephone, like a queen is." Caramel eyes mocks the ocean eyed swan. "Your mother isn't. That is why she hasn't been one and most likely won't ever sit next to a man's throne." At this the young now felt proud. She knew that her mother would not give into marriage, and that her stepmother had no clue of the works of girl power. Pow. Pow. Red felt like whispering at that useless blow.
Annoyed by her father's wife, the golden hair child starts to head towards the arch. She squints up at the woman with desperation to leave. At least act the part of a victim. Then you'll be able to leave. Persephone knew better than to fight back. More harm would be done to her if she were to insult the Queen any longer. "I should be heading along to the gardens. My mother must be ill if I am not reachable to her nymphs soon."
Caramel eyes chooses to nod her head surveying the outdoors. "You may go, Kore." Before the raven headed knew it, the girl was beyond her sight. She practically starts to beat herself up before calling another nymph over from the gardens to clean up after her mess. She rushes out of her bedchambers, still in her milk-white silk gown.
Soon enough the young duckling is far from the sight of the wicked witch of the west. She declares to herself that the wicked witch of the west is no more- meaning her mother during the nights on Gia's warm belly. One must be worse than the other.
To be continued...
Author's Notes: Thank you for checking out chapter six- Persephone, Persephone, Persephone Pt. 1. Second night in the row I updated this wattpad story.
The next few chapters in this story will be leading up to the swan's abduction by the Underworld Realm. I am trying to not drag the beginning of the story, however, I want to show the emotional toll on the young creature as she is abducted.
