I looked down at my notebook, then put down my backpack. I leaned over and opened it. Still feeling the eyes on me, I put away my phone. As I turned back up and towards my notebook, I faintly heard someone say my name. It was the teacher. She gave me a look that clearly said put it away before I take it.
Sighing, I reluctantly put it away. She must have felt pity though, because she walked up a few minutes later and dropped a small whiteboard and, lucky for me, a red marker. Looking up at her, she simply stated " give it back tommarrow".Then walked away.
Looking back up, I received even more stares. I looked down quickly and doodled on my board. Ten minutes later I was writing down everything I needed to buy in my notebook, and class notes on a sheet of paper. Luckily, the class stoped staring when the lesson started. In my notebook the list read so far:
•white board
• markers!!!
•spiral notebook
•paper
I put away the notebook, and continued taking down notes. The different types of maps and charts. Fun. Not. That class dragged on slowly. For the next half hour I was staring at the clock. Thirty minutes left.
Twenty.
Fifteen.
Ten.
Five.
Three.
One.
BEEEEEP!!!
The bell made me jump, even though I was expecting it. Sad. Yes I was aware. I pulled out my schedule again.
2ND SCIENCE MR.TAYLOR RM.218
Ugh that meant stairs...I think. I walked down the rest of the hallway, looking at the numbers. I sighed, dissapointed. Yup that meant the class was inevitably, up stairs. Angrily, I made my way back to the double doors I passed when walking down the hallway.
Watching all the other kids push and shove their way up the stairs, I stomped my way up them. Once I got to the top, I walked down the hallway, again lost. I wonder around the 2nd floor. I eventually found room 218.
I slowly opened the door. A tall, blond, skinny, and scragly faced man looked at me. " You must be Scarlet Reese." Shyly, I nodded looking back at my feet. He eyed the white board I had forgotten I was holding. Giving me a confused look he asked me "Whats the board for?"
Knowing he was expecting an answer I quickly started searching my backpack. Five minutes later, zipping my bag,I now held the marker, and the board. I stood there trying to write 'I don't talk' on it.
He must have noticed I was struggling since he said quickly " Fourth row, last seat" I nodded, picked up the bag I had dropped on to the floor, and sat down. Once I had situated myself, he walked up to me, again. "So you have the board for what now?" 'I don't talk.' I showed him.
I looked up and gave him a small, and awkward smile. He nodded and walked back to the front. Sitting at his desk he started the lesson.
The whole day went by like that. Me awkwardly wandering around the school looking for my classes, walking in awkwardly, and telling the teacher off the whiteboard that I wouldn't talk, and writing down stuff on the list I needed.
Now the list read:
•white board
• markers!!!
•3 spiral notebooks
•paper
•Paper
•More paper
•pencils
Looking back down on my schedule. Since it was the end of third period, I now had lunch. Heading back down the packed, chaotic stairwell. I'm going to go deaf in this stairewell, I told myself, pointing out the obvious.
I managed to get to the lunchroom easily. Shhh I took the easy way, I just followed the mass of children moving down the hallway. Walking Into the cafeteria I went and stood in line.
