Jonathan's POV

The night of the Snowball dance came. After all the hell Will and everyone else went through hell and back to close the portal and get that shadow monster out of Will, we finally got a chance to have fun. Well, as much fun as you can have at a middle school dance.

I was taking pictures for most of the night, but after a while I got a break. Since Nancy was still working, I decided to step out without her.

I walked outside to find none other than Steve Harrington sitting in his car alone. I walked up to it and tapped on his window. Once he rolled it down, I said, " Steve Harrington alone on a Saturday night?"

" I'm waiting for Dustin to come out. I'm his ride. What do you want, Byers? To come and gloat?" I put my arm on the top of his car, leaning on it.

I shook my head. " I'm not an ass like you." He gave me a glare for a minute, then it faded.

" Must be cold out there. I don't suppose you'd want to come and sit in here?" Steve motioned to the empty seat next to him.

If I was being honest, it was freezing outside, but that's not the full reason why I decided to sit in the car with Steve. No, something about being alone in a closed space with him gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling that I can't explain.

He pulled out a flask and took a swig of it. " Want some," he asked, handing me the small, metal container filled with who knows what.

I reluctently took it from him, my fingers brushing against his. His warm, soft hands against my cold, rough ones. I opened the flask and took a sip of the liquid. The alcohol burning my throat as it ran down the back of my throat. I gagged slightly, trying to hold it in.

He smirked at me and I returned it with my half unsure smile. We continued to drink from the flask, passing it back and fourth, talking about whatever the hell we want.

Before I knew it, I was drunk. I knew Steve was too from the way he slurred his words and laughed more than he usually does. That's when our conversation started to take a turn. "Jonathan?" I hummed in response, not paying attention the the fact that he actually called me by my first name. " Why did Nancy choose you over me?"

I shrugged, not knowing the answer. "Maybe she just wasn't happy with you. Which I don't get because anyone would be lucky to date you." The alcohol in my system took away any sense of a filter I had, so whatever I thought is what I said.

He laughed for a few seconds, but then his laughter came to an abrupt stop. " Would you tell Nancy if I did something stupid?"

I furrowed my eyebrows, trying to think of what he could be talking about. When I realised he was serious, I shook my head no. He let out a shaky breath as if he was nervous. Then, he did the unexpected. He cupped my face with both hands and pressed his lips to mine.

I kissed back, but immediately pulled away. I felt scared for what he would say to me. What if this is a test of his? Is he going to use this to get back with Nancy? But before I had a chance to say anything, I heard a knock on the window.

I looked over to Steve's side of the car to see Nancy with a confused look plastered on her face. I quickly got out of the car, sobering up. "Jonathan, what are you doing with Steve in his car?"

" Nothing?" I said, clearly sounding unsure of myself. " I got a break, so I came out here and Steve invited me to sit with him." It wasn't a full lie, but I definitely left out a lot.

" Since when do you and Steve get along? And," she paused, taking a step closer to me, sniffing. " Have you been drinking?" She crossed her arms, waiting for my explanation.

I figured there was no point in lying about the alcohol since she could clearly tell I was slightly drunk and smell like vodka. " Steve offered me something to drink. It's no big deal, Nance. Let's just head home." I wrapped my arm around her, and walked her to the car.

" I'm driving since you're clearly not sober enough to drive." I could hear the strictness laced in her voice, causing me not to argue back.
