Rose walked down the hallway of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, the same school her mom attended many years ago. The baby blue pleated skirt twirled around her long, lean legs. She made her way to her locker and opened the combination without having to even think about it. Her locker wasn't as colorfully decorated as her fellow classmates, but at least she'd taken the effort to put up some pictures: one of her and her family and one of her skating team.

She quickly took out her lilac trolley in which she kept her skates and accessories and rushed outside to meet her driver. Her training session started at 3:30 PM sharp, but last period didn't end before 3 PM, so she was always one of the first students to scurry of the classroom. Then she had to race over to the other side of town just to be in time for figure skating practice. Her coach had told her many times to apply for a dispensation, but Rose never did. Skating meant the world to her, but so did school and she just couldn't choose between the two. Ever since she was a little girl she dreamed of going to the Winter Olympics, but she also really wanted to become a doctor.

She was still thinking about a comment her teacher made on Lord of the Flies as they drove past Central Park's greenery. She wasn't sure if she agreed with her statement but didn't have any time to argue with her, keeping in mind that she'd be late for practice if she did. It was a thirty-minute drive to the ice skating complex and she used that time to change into her sports clothes and mentally prepare for the training.  After she'd arrived at the place, she said goodbye to her driver and sprinted towards the entrance only to find out her fellow teammates were already on the ice. She sighed and sat down on one of the benches to put on her skates.

"Let me guess, you came straight from class?" Coach asked her once she was on the ice.

"I'm so sorry," she said, still out of breath from running.

"Rose, you're a very talented girl," he said in a calmer voice, "possibly one of my most talented pupils, but if you truly want to be the best, you need to set your priorities. I'm not telling you to drop out of school, of course, but please make sure you're in time from now on. You haven't even stretched yet."

"I'm really sorry," she said again. "It's just. I don't know how."

"Have you discussed this with your mom yet?"

"Yes." She lied.

"If you don't do it this week, I'm going to call her myself."

"Okay, okay, I'll talk to her," she said. "What do I need to do now?"

"Just warm up with some jumps and after that we'll go over your routine."

Even though her mind was not completely with skating, Rose's training went pretty well. Coach even managed to give her a compliment after the training, which sporadically happened. The long school day and the training session had worn her out completely. She was not heading home just yet, though, since she still needed to run for 20 minutes to cool down and prevent any injuries. Most of the girls didn't do as Coach said, but Rose took his instructions very seriously, being the little perfectionist that she was. She had just started on her second lap when she saw the ice hockey boys enter the ice. They always trained after the figure skater girls. As she was watching them, she didn't see one of them coming out of the dressing room and nearly bumped into him.

"Woah, you scared me!"

She took out one of her earbuds and slowed down. "I'm sorry."

His dark, Asian eyes lit up when he saw her face. "It's fine. I'd rather get tackled by a figure skater than one of my teammates."

She looked at him shyly, not really knowing how to handle the situation since she never really talked to boys, let alone boys that were kind of cute. Or really cute. "I can imagine."
