Dembe's pov

" Pick the big one for me, Kojo. "

" I know, D. My girl loves big things. "

He was smirking and I could not stop myself from laughing.

We were in his homestead picking mangoes or rather he was picking them for me.
I was not comfortable with the height of the tree but trust  my Kojo to be as stubborn as a mule. He would not let me talk a word against it, so I had no choice but to let him.

"Kojo, watch the branches you are stepping on. "

"Oh!  You do not want to lose me. "

He managed to fool around even in situations where it was not required and that is exactly what made me crazy about him.

" Of course, I do not want to lose you. We belong together. Who else will be  getting  on my nerves daily? "

"Do not trouble yourself D, I am going nowhere. You will have to deal with all this forever. I promise. "

He made as if to show off his body and at first it was all funny and corny, but then it seized to be so when Kojo slipped.

I watched as he fell but I could not do anything because, suddenly my limbs could not move.
I tried screaming but just as shocking, I could not hear my own voice.
I watched as his body hit the floor, and the pain and on his face was enough to drive me to tears.
As merciless as death can be, I watched as life slipped out of him.

"Kojo!  You said I would not lose you! You promised! "

I tried screaming, but no words could be voiced.

"Kojo! Kojo! "

"Dembe!  What is wrong with you? "

I felt someone shaking me in a not-so-gentle manner. And why did I suddenly sound like Amare?

"Wake up already!  I can see that 'Kojo Man'  is really doing a great job "

Of course, it had to be Amare who would wake me up in a not-so-gentle manner.

"What are you doing here Amare?  Whatever happened to privacy? "

"How could I not be here when my  only sister was screaming out the name of her favorite village champion with so much passion that I thought she was dying. "

I felt my cheeks flash. The situation was as relieving as it was embarrassing.
The whole experience was just a dream.

Just a dream? Then, why did it feel so real?

"So,  are you going to tell me why you were screaming Kojo's name like that and maybe I can understand why you are sweating profusely and it is very early in the morning. "

"I am glad you can tell that it is still very early, so please leave.  I am fine. "

By the look on his face, I knew Amare was not going to let this go just like that. He had to get answers and torture me while at it.
