Evelyn ||

Gilbert woke me up and I left his home. When I got back to my house I climbed up the stairs and went to my room. I flopped onto my bed and thought about whether I should go to school tomorrow or not. All the girls hate me. The only person that doesn't hate me is Gilbert, but I'm not allowed to talk to him. I have freedom of speech, but still can't use my words. If I do I'm considered a bad friend. All those girls are so stupid. I'm allowed to talk to who I want to talk to. I decided to go to school tomorrow, and I will talk to who I want.

//

I woke up bright and early. I opened my curtains and smiled at the sunny day. I stretched and then got dressed. I brushed my hair and my teeth before bouncing down the stairs. "Good morning darling," My mother greeted me.

"Good morning mother," I took my seat at the table, "Good morning Jacob and Dan,"

"Good morning," they said in unison. My mother placed plates of food on the table and Jacob immediately went for the bacon. He grabbed four pieces and put them on his place. I grabbed two pieces before there was none left. I grabbed a piece of toast and began buttering it as my brothers talked with my mother.

"What about you Evelyn?" My mother asked.

"What?" I questioned, "sorry I wasn't listening,"

"Your brothers and I are going for dinner at the Blythe's tonight would you like to come along?"

"Sure," I said, "why not,"

"She only wants to go because of Gilbert," Dan commented. My eyes got wide and punched him on the shoulder and we laughed it off.

"What is even going on with you and that boy?" My mother inquired, "He came here yesterday,"

"We're just friends," I told her, "I promise,"

"That's what you say but not what I see, " she teased, "eat up now,"

I shook my head and took a bite out of my toast.

As I walked to school I hummed and kicked up the leaves. The leaves were stunning at this time of the year. They are a perfect rhythm of colors. They are something that's just so pretty it makes you happy. The bright reds, oranges, and yellows danced around as I kicked up the leaves. "Boo!" A voice yelled from behind me. I jumped up and squealed. Gilbert laughed at me.

"Gilbert!" I shouted and playfully hit him.

"You were so caught up in your imagination I knew it was the perfect time to scare you,"

I shook my head, "Disrupting me from thoughts," I stared at him, "what a bad child," We chuckled.

"My father said your family is coming to dinner at mine tonight,"

"Yeah, we are,"

"Your going right?"

"Yes of course,"

"Good I'll know at least one person,"

"My brothers are going,"

"Have I met them?"

"I honestly don't know," We giggled and soon arrived at the white school house.

"Goodbye see you later," He said as he about to open the door I stopped him.

"I've decided since the girls already hate me I might as well talk to you," I explained. Gilbert smiled and pushed open the door. I followed behind him.

"My father is so excited for you guys to come to dinner," Gilbert said to me as we took off our jackets.

"That's sweet," I smiled, "what about you?"

"Of course I am I get to see the one and only Evelyn Harris," He joked and I chuckled.

"And I get to see the one and only Gilbert Blythe," He shook his head and laughed to himself. He then went to sit with all the boys. I took my seat. Anne hasn't returned. The girls gave me nasty looks as usual and the boys also stared at me weirdly. I wanted to jump up on my desk and scream for them to stop staring at me, but I stayed put in my seat. Mr. Phillips soon arrived and class started.

//

I threw my things on the porch once I finally got home from school. I walked into the house and went to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple off the counter and headed upstairs to my room. I looked through my dresses. I picked a lovely forest green dress. It compliments my brown hair and brown eyes. I took it out of my closet and set it on my bed. For some reason, I feel like I have to look extra good tonight. I took a bite of my apple and set it on my napkin.

"Evelyn!" My mother called from the living room.

"Yes, mother!"

"Are you getting ready for dinner?"

"Yes!"

"Okay, we're leaving in a few hours!"

"Okay!"

I looked at myself in my vanity mirror and rubbed my face. I have bags under my eyes and my eyelashes look so straight. I went to my mother's bathroom and grabbed her makeup. When I got back, I put some concealer under my eyes and powder all over my face. I curled my eyelashes and applied some mascara. Then I took out my favorite lipgloss of hers and put it on. I undid my ponytail and took out the curling iron. I curled all my hair. My hair still looked plain so I took two sections and tied them back. I pulled out a few hairs to define my face. Then I stood up and changed dresses.

"Evelyn!" My mother screamed, "We're leaving in fifteen minutes!"

"I'm almost done!"

After putting my dress, I put on my favorite necklace. I stared at my appearance and was satisfied.

"Evelyn ten more minutes!"

"I'm coming," I called back as I walked down the stairs.

My mother gasped at me when I arrived at the bottom of the stairs.

"Is there something wrong?"

"No honey you just look so stunning," My brothers smiled at me.

"Let's go," Jacob said as he finished tying his shoes. I put my shoes on and grabbed my jacket.
