What Lies Ahead

MY POV

     We've been on the road for a couple days and it's been hard. Right now we are stopped because some of are vehicles ran out of gas. Daryl is gonna ride his motorcycle and the rest of us are gonna pile in a car and the RV. Every once in awhile I see Shane staring at Lori and it's creepy.

     "Lets saddle up son," Dale says to Shane who was just staring at Rick and Lori. Like hard. They start the vehicles and drive. Rick, Lori, Carol, Sophia, Carl, and I are in a car behind the RV. Dale, Shane, Glenn, T-Dog, and Andrea are in the RV while Daryl is in front of them riding his motorcycle. Lori starts to smile then she laughs a little.

      "I was just thinking about our trip to the Grand Canyon with Carl," she says. Rick starts laughing, so Carl and I smile.

     "What was so funny about it?" I ask Carl and he shrugs his shoulders then he turns to his parents.

     "I don't remember that."

     "No, you wouldn't. You were just a baby. Besides, we never made it past Fort Worth," Lori says still smiling.

     "No, you got sick. I never knew a baby could throw up so much," Rick laughs.

     "Ick.""Eww." Carl and I say at the same time.

     "Yeah, ick and Eww." Lori says laughing. I laugh a little picturing baby Carl puking all over them. "The doctor in Texas said you'd live. Then we turned around and drove home."

     "Well, so much for having a good trip." I say laughing at Carl.

     "That sucks," Carl says.

     "No, it was a good trip."

     "The best." Rick says grabbing Lori's hand and smiling. They are so cute sometimes, but then other times I wanna scream because I mean they're old and their Carl's parents, so that's G.R.O.S.S.

     "Can we go see it? The Grand Canyon? I'd like to."

     "Me to. It would be the best. It would be something fun to do-- you know something kids should do," I say right after Carl.

     "I would too," Sophia says. "Can we go?"

     "We'd never go without you and your mom. That's a promise." Rick says to Sophia. Sophia and Carol smile as Sophia lays on Carols shoulder. After two minutes of silence we go on a highway with a bunch of cars. Rick starts to slow down because the RV slows down. After a while we stop and I see Daryl go around the RV and then go ahead of it again. Then the RV starts moving again, so we start moving.

     "What's going on?" I ask looking at all the cars. Then I see a van with windows rolled down and four dead people inside.

     "It's just some cars. We'll be okay." Lori says as she grabs Carl by the hand. Then all of a sudden the RV stops so Rick slams on the brakes. Lori, Carol, and Rick get out of the car. Me, Carl, and Sophia get out after them. Dale starts talking to the group before we get by to the RV.

     "Problem, Dale?" Shane asks looking around.

     "Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no hope of--" Daryl walks up to a car. "Okay that was dumb," Dale says for some reason I don't understand.

     "If you can't find a radiator hose here..." Shane trials off looking off at something or maybe nothing.

     "There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." Daryl says digging in a cars trunk.
