Oakland's Sweetest: Chapter 2

~6 Years Later~
~Nelle Bells' P.O.V.~

"Nelle Bells what are you doing?" Jay asked me. I was outside in the front yard playing in the little pool.

"I was hot so I'm playing with the pool." I stuck one leg in first before the other and sat down in the cold water. Jay gave me the nick name Nelle Bells and I really like it. "Where's Mommy?"

"She went to work. Aunt Natalie is watching us." Natalie was Mommy's friend but we called her Aunt Natalie.

"Oh. Where is she?"

"She's getting stuff packed for you. We're going over to her house for today so you gotta get out and empty the pool." But I don't want to get out.

"Do I have to?" I made a pouty face.

"Yup. So go do it." I nodded my head and hopped out. I sat on the edge of the pool so it sunk down and all the water started to come out. When there was only a little bit left, Jay came and flipped the floaty pool over. He grabbed my hand and helped me up the stairs. The stairs on the porch were hard for me to climb because there was a big space between them.

"I want two braids like what Mommy does." I said to Jay as we went inside.

"Go ask Aunt Natalie. She's upstairs." I nodded my head and climbed all the way up the stairs.

"Aunt Natalie? Can you please braid my hair?" I asked as I walked into my room.

"When we get to my house I will. We need to get going." She picked up a bag and held her hand out for me to grab. I smiled and grabbed her hand as we walked down the stairs and out to the car.

"Nelle Bells wanna go to the small river? Aunt Natalie said we could as long as we go there and straight back." I nodded my head and ran out the front door. I liked the small river, sometimes there were fishies that lived there and turtles.

We walked along the sidewalk and over the small hill till we got to the river. Jay made me put on my arm floaties and the big donut that went around my tummy before I could go near the river.

"Can I get in now?" I asked as I sat on the big rock. I could already see small orange fishies that I wanted to catch.

"Yeah go ahead. Just don't go in the middle of the river, that's where it's deepest." I nodded my head and walked in. I looked up and saw a few kids walk up to Jay. I focused right back to the fishies.

"So you made a new friend huh?" Jay asked as we were laying in the sun to dry off. I got to touch a fishy today.

"Mhm. Her name is Leah." While I was playing, a girl named Leah came up to me and we became friends. She said she's going to my school now.

"How old is she?"

"6 like me." A ladybug landed on my tummy and it tickled. "Did you make a new friend?"

"Yup. His name is DeAnte. He's 7 but seems pretty cool." Jay looked over and laughed when he saw me looking at the ladybug. He blew it off my tummy.

"Awh I liked her. Why did you do that?"

"She needs to be in the grass Nelle."

"I'm hungry." I said as I sat up.

"Wanna go to the corner store over there then head home? Aunt Natalie gave us a few dollars." I nodded my head and got up.

We walked to the corner store and I got a bag of barbecue chips. Jay got nacho doritos and we shared a 7 up. It was in the glass bottle so I couldn't open it. I had to wait for Jay to pop off the cap because I didn't know how.
