My blood suddenly got cold...
"Nah, must've been a mistake, ignore me please. I wouldn't want to startle such a lovely student in her first day of science now would we?" He stared me down as I involuntarily gulped.
"N-no sir," I glanced down to bite back my tears as the past that I have so tightly tried to forget resurfaced. I will not let the past get to me, now isn't the time to remember it.
"Okay class, today's topic we will be continuing on is separating the mixture of salt, water and sand," Mr Yosh talked as if the recent confrontation hasn't even happened.
"Yikes," I whispered in frustration as something hits my head. I turned, in time to see a group of guys, probably some popular kids. They were aiming paper planes to my head.
The tallest realised that his group had been caught, smirked and mouthed out "Cry Baby," as he mocked me, pretending to cry while rubbing his eyes. Astaghfirullah, my second day of school and this had to happen.
"Ainul, is there something that you'd like to share with us all?" Mr Yosh asked me as he spots me not paying attention.
"No sir," I replied quickly. Ya Allah please don't let him question me further I pleaded silently.
"Then please pay closer attention to class," he stated and resumed to his lecture of filtering and using the right equipments. Guess science wasn't how I'd imagine it would be.
The bell rang and I never knew how a simple bell could make a smile form on my face. I packed my bag and rushed out to find my new friend. I strode past the spacious, creamy corridor and went to my right.
"Grr, grrr," I patted my stomach, I need to really eat, like right now. No one could prevent me from my tummy's hunger call.
I pushed open the cafeteria doors and began my search for Helen. Spotting her waving besides the canteen with two other girls whom were wearing a hijab. Wearing a hijab! Alhamdulillah! I came close to them and politely smiled.
"Guys this is Ainul, Ainul these are my friends," Helen gestures to the first who seems like she really can't sit in one spot, she has on a light pink hijab with a black skirt and light pink long sleeve top. The other who looked to be real upset about something had on a black hijab, black skirt and navy blue long sleeve top.
"Nice meeting you all," I said as my face turns crimson red.
"Chill darl, We ain't going to bite you. Though I've never heard that name before. Well, I'm Hafsah and this here is Fatimah. She's being a bit stubborn since her last test results weren't that good, but don't worry she'll notice you in a couple of minutes." I felt so happy and a little wanted that I felt like shedding a few tears.
"Oh it's alright, you can give her some time,"
"Hey Ainul, did you know that I thought it was just me and Fatimah, but now there's you." I looked at her questionably.
"I'm sorry, what do you mean?" I replied to Hafsah confused to what she had meant.
"Well, we three are the only Muslimahs in the WHOLE school. Trust me, it's true. And if they give you any of those stares just give it straight back at them! I always do it. That's why they stopped. Has any one ever looked at you in an unbelievable way?" I smiled since she spoke so fast and it was funny. I didn't really want to say that I don't think we're meant to reply the same way, but I just replied with a smile.
"No. I don't remember. I don't really think so. That's actually sad that there are only three of us." After just realising my presence, the other girl looks up.
"Oh hi. Sorry I didn't notice you. I'm Fatimah, what was your name?"
"Ainul. And it's fine, you should continue I don't want to interrupt."
"I just can't believe this! History tests and I had to make such a dumb mistake, if only I did-" Fatimah mutters angrily to herself.
"Calm down man, it's only a test. There is always a next time."
"Ainul, why are you standing all day, come on. Sit beside us here," Helen tapped the seat beside her and I snapped out of my haze of a journey to Dreamland, because of this miracle that's happening right now.
"Uh, yeah. You're right. Thanks," I ramble nervously.
"What classes do you have? Do you mind me looking at your timetable?" Hafsah asked as she stretched her hand out.
"Sure," I took the timetable and handed it to her at the same time grabbing out my sandwhich and stuffing it.
"Yay! We have Gym class together! Fatimah, We have another person with us for Gym Class," she yelled in excitement.
"Yes! Good to hear that! Can't wait for you to join us last period." Fatimah squealed happily.
"Hey guys, don't leave me out of this," Helen pouted. We all laugh, Ya Allah I love them already.
Then my smile falls and I realise I can't be too close to them, because of what happened with my former friends.
