What advantage we do take of them,

We use them day and night.

We think them, breath them and tuck them out of sight,

They build us up and tear us down,

They define all things,

We keep a book of them and yet that does not begin to list them all,

Many large at length and yet thousands are small,

Words pull us in, and drag us out,

They make our emotions flit about,

Fear, anger happiness and love too,

All can be caused by words said by you,

When strewn together the make images appear,

Scenes of love and laughter, and shedding of tears,

All authors write with words, both powerful and meek,

And readers look in books when it is words that they seek,

Of the millions, trillions of words we share,

Words are things that are thrown around with little care,

Use a word oh so cautiously,

Use it right and then you'll see,

Why words mean so much to me.
