Love Burns

Love,

We underestimate its power,

Love,

It drives people to kill,

To live in a way they never thought they would,

To do things they never thought they could,

Love,

Once it blooms inside your heart there it takes root and remains until the fire of rejection singes it to ashes,

Love,

It bleeds and burns,

Causes more pain than war,

More pain than hatred,

More pain than neglect,

For love leaves us empty once it's left,

We beg for its return,

We run to those who carry it with them and ask for them them to share,

For we cannot live without love,

Love,

It brings joy to lose who lack it,

And happiness to those who have just yet found it,

Love,

It tears those close to you apart and brings strangers together,

It mends the broken and empty,

And it destroys when left to its desires,

For loves desires lead to destruction and still many follow closely behind, unable to turn from its deadly clutches,

Love,

It's something everyone talks about,

It's something everyone sees,

We can't deny it exists in everyone of us, and yet we do,

We deny love,

We depart from it when it is thrown back in our faces,

Love,

Peace can be achieved with it, and wars started because of it,

It is dark and light, bringing both joy and sadness,

We have the chance to choose which side of love we see,

We can let it burn us when we near too close,

But we may also bask in it's warmth when we stand at a distance

Yet fire is still fire no matter how close or far you are from it,

Fire burns and spreads, as does love.

So play with love as you would play with fire,

With caution and a ready eye,

For a misplaced spark can lead to a wildfire,

As can an unsaid word lead to unknown emotions,

So love,

But do so wisely,

For love burns, and love can be bitter cold,

And that, about love, is what I do well know.
