The Jedi Order is complex and sometimes tough to understand. So here I've put together a simple guide on the three branches of the Jedi Order to help with planning your stories.
JEDI GUARDIANS

CHARACTERISTICS • considered the most skilled in battle • concentrate their studies on martial arts and combat training • commonly carry blue lightsaber (although not always) and wear them openly on their belts • prior to the clone wars, guardians work with the republic police and military in the outer rim on cases like the slave trade and smuggling
ROLES • exotic weapons specialistsare a rare role in the jedi order. they are trained to use weapons other than just a lightsaber including double bladed lightsabers, lightsaber pikes, flails, whips, and blasters. • lightsaber instructors are tasked with passing on lightsaber techniques and forms to initiates, younglings and padawans • jedi aces are members of the jedi starfighter corpse. they work with local defence fleets and the republic navy • jedi peacekeepers focus on security operations and suppressing violence before it would erupt. they also made up the jedi temple security force.
JEDI CONSULARS

CHARACTERISTICS
• specialised in the force and its teachings, very in tune with it • better suited to being diplomates and resolving conflict with peaceful negotiations • pacifists that are prone to green lightsabers
ROLES • jedi ambassadors/diplomats serve as liaisons between newly discovered worlds and broker peace treaties between warring or disputing worlds
• jedi healers lead the medical corp to preserve life and heal wounds using the force • jedi lore keepers maintain the jedi holocrons (cubes that contain coveted knowledge) and archives • jedi researchers serve as mathematicians, biologists, astronomers to update the archives with new information • jedi seers can often capture glimpses of the future and divine prophecies
JEDI SENTINELS

CHARACTERISTICS
• a group that preferred working directly with the everyday citizens of the republic • they are the guardians of temples and upholders of jedi laws • they are the only faction with yellow lightsabers
ROLES
• jedi artisans blended mechanics, art and their force abilities to design lightsabers, holocrons and other specialised mechanisms • jedi investigators worked alongside law enforcement undercover to track down criminal criminals and gangs • jedi recruiters test newborns for force sensitivity and track other force users • jedi shadows study, destroy and discover dark side objects and users • jedi watchmen are responsible for ensuring peace and protection of rights on allocated planets and systems • temple guards are anonymous jedi who serve and protect the temple and its inhabitants
