I put a spoonful of mint chocolate chip ice cream into my mouth, humming with delight. Bella nudges me under the table with her foot. I roll my eyes, fully aware that she is making a big deal out of the fact that I invited Chase out with us.
A spoon enters my peripheral vision, moving towards my bowl. I jerk the bowl away with one hand and swat the spoon with the other.
“I just wanted a taste of your ice cream.”
I narrow my eyes at Chase.
“Don’t touch my ice cream.”
He knows I’m joking. He goes back to eating his ice cream with one last mumble under his breath.
“I’ll just have to find other ways to taste it.”
I do my best to ignore that comment. I just broke up with Jonathan. I shouldn't be ready to move on already. Especially not ready to move on to Chase Parker.
“Hey, Chase. Did Abby tell you that she broke up with Jonathan?”
He turns to me, eyes pleading for an answer.
“No she did not tell me.”
I take a bite of my ice cream and shrug.
“He was being too controlling, so I broke it off. No big deal.”
I silently curse my friends for making me tell him that. He would have found out eventually, but still.
“Want me to pick you up tomorrow for the game?”
“I can just tag along with Bella. I would hate for you to go out of your way.”
He laughs and Bella chimes in.
“Trav was going to drive me in his truck. Unless you want the cramped back.”
By the expression on Trav’s face, I could tell she just pulled that statement out of her rear end.
“What time will you be picking me up?”
His answer comes a little too quickly.
“How about six thirty?”
“Sounds good to me.”
