It’s already one o’clock and two other couples have lost. I can tell Chase is hungry. His stomach is rumbling and he’s getting cranky. Since there is still ten couples and we might be here longer than anticipated, I’m seriously debating whether or not to give him a protein bar or something. His arm starts slipping off of me. Alarmed, I turn to face him. He looks dazed and out of it. He’s struggling to keep his eyes open.
“Chase?”
He moves his lips but no words come out. I flip to straddle him, which is still cuddling according to the rules. I reach over to grab the bar from my pocket. I unwrap it and put it near his mouth, forcing him to take a bite. He devours the whole thing in a matter of seconds. Soon after, he looks more alert and clearly amused.
“All it took was me faking being sick for you to make my dreams come true?”
I don’t know if he’s talking about the straddling or the feeding him, but it still angers me.
“You jerk. I didn’t know if you had some kind of condition or not!”
I roll of him, keeping my hands around him until his arms find their way around me again.
“For future reference, I do have an issue with my sugar levels.”
“Whatever.”
He moves his lips to my ear.
“I was hoping you would have done mouth to mouth.”
I bite his hand lightly, drawing a chuckle out of him.
“If that’s what you’re into then count me in.”
Can he get any more frustrating?
A new song turns on and I feel Chase shake his head.
“What?”
“They put Theory of A Deadman on this playlist.”
“And?”
I wait for him to respond and for the lyrics to start clawing their way out of the speakers.
“And this song describes my thoughts involving you.”
I listen closely as the lyrics start. I vaguely remember hearing this song once before. He closes his eyes listening to the music. The song isn’t too bad. The lyrics and his prior comment make me raise an eyebrow at Chase.
Pros versus cons. Pros win.
I bring my lips to his neck, making his eyes open.
“That counts as kissing.”
“One more word out of your mouth and I’ll stop.”
That shuts him right up. If he wants me to act like the song and fulfill his fantasies, he’s going to need to let it happen.
I wind up straddling him, running my hands over his muscular torso while kissing his neck. I avoid his lips, not wanting to lose the bet.
“No fornicating, Team Avalanche!”
“We aren’t!”
I can hear Bella’s laugh from wherever she is located.
Chase snaps up my attention by running his fingers up my spine, giving me goosebumps. I get back to work.
He is obviously enjoying it by his reaction.
When the song is finally over, I go back to my spooning position, completely abashed.
