I feel like i'm floating. i'm above the clouds, where there is peace and quiet. mike is with me, and i'm happy.

a week ago, he asked me to be his girlfriend. i remember every single detail, as if it was my favorite movie.

i still can't believe we kissed. i'm so happy. so happy that i couldn't pay attention in class. i couldn't stop thinking about mike.

the bell finally rang, and i rushed out of the classroom to my locker, so i could put my books away.

i swung my locker door open, a crazy grin still on my face. a pair of strong arms then wrapped around my waist, and i giggled. "el?" mike whispered to me gently.

"yes?" i answered back.

he buried his head in the crook of my neck, but turned his head towards my ear so i would hear his soft words.

"will you be my girlfriend?"

i turned around gasping, and reaching up to hug him my legs swinging in the air. and like magic, mike wrapped them around his waist.

"yes!" i exclaimed, my grin just becoming bigger, and bigger.

"yes," i whispered again, and rest my head on his shoulder.

"psst, el?"

i turned to look at max, and rolled my eyes. "it's lunch? why are we whispering?"

"oh. right." she replied, her voice much louder than the last she talked. "anyway... wanna go to the mall later?"

max is a tomboy. everyone knew that. but what they didn't know, what only el knew, is that she had a soft spot for shopping.

"um, sure. i need to get a dress for homecoming, anyway."

max's eyes widened, and she gave herself a face palm. "crap, homecoming. i completely forgot about that."

"then shopping it is." i grinned, and put an arm around my friend's shoulder.

-

"that's it. that's the one." max clapped when i came out in a dress that was more red than her hair.

it was beautiful, no doubt, but not really my style. then again, dresses in general aren't my style. my style in the summer is a t-shirt and shorts, and in the fall and winter a sweatshirt, leggings, and uggs.

i know, i know. i'm really basic.

the dress had a sweetheart neckline, and clung to my body, accentuating the little curves i have. it ended an inch above my knee. definitely not something i'd normally wear.

"mike will love it!" she said, and gave me a thumbs up so i could go change, and then we could pay and leave since  max already found her dress.

everything was so perfect, everything coming together.

i was the happiest i'd been in a long, long time.
