"This should match," Ally said, holding up the Ikea bedspreads for the girls' new beds.
Lauren, who was too busy enjoying the baby in her arms, gave a distracted nod and hummed her agreement.
"Okay, you're no help," Ally said, rolling her eyes playfully as she crouched down and looked at Camila.
Camila looked at her feet, still very much in pain after the news she received yesterday. The mothers were at a back and forth all morning on whether bringing her to Ikea was a good idea, but they wanted her to have moments throughout the day where she could have a distraction. They were hoping a trip to the maze-like store would help.
"What do you think about these?" Ally asked, showing the little girl the bedspreads she'd selected.
Camila looked at the cover, rubbing a fist over her red-rimmed eyes before shaking her head.
"No thank you," she whispered.
"Okay. Why don't you come pick one you like then? There's a bunch hung up on the wall," Ally said, motioning to the wall behind herself.
Camila agreed to this, allowing for the short woman to lift her up and bring her to the options for bedspreads.
The four-year-old scanned the various designs, her eyes finally landing a black bedspread decorated with white stars. She gave the one she liked a light tug, showing Ally that it was her favourite.
"Nice choice, Mila. Look, it even had a matching blanket," Ally said, as she grabbed the bedspread in a package. She handed the soft blanket to the little girl in her arms, smiling as she watched the four-year-old rub her hands over it before nuzzling her face against the soft fabric.
"Well, that's settled," Ally said, setting the item on the flat car that Dinah was already sat on, mindlessly hitting hands on the boxes she was on top of. They had already grabbed the necessary white bed frame and crib that would match the guest room dresser so they were making a stop at the upper level of Ikea to find decorations for the room to make it less bland.
