"Ally!"
Ally shot up from her place on the master bed, Normani whining against her chest from the sudden movement.
"Ally!"
Snapping to her senses, Ally set Normani into the crib next to her and quickly ran out of the room to see her wife making it to the top of the stairs with a bright red Dinah in her arms.
"What's wrong? Is she okay?" Ally asked, rushing behind her wife who went straight for the washroom.
"She's having an asthma attack," Lauren explained, setting the toddler on the counter before rummaging in a drawer for her asthma medicine.
"Why didn't you call me?" Ally demanded, holding her daughter's face as she struggled to cry out between broken breaths.
"My phone died. Fuck, where is it?" Lauren snapped, slamming the drawer shut before opening another one.
Ally moved her wife aside and opened the bottom drawer, grabbing an unopened puffer and an extra mask. They always kept the spare down there for moments like these when they couldn't find Dinah's usual one.
"Okay, baby. Breathe. Nice and slow," the short woman said, setting the mask over her daughter's wet face before she pressed out one puff of medicine.
Dinah took a very shuddered breath in and sobbed back out, more tears falling and staining her cheeks.
"One more, love," Ally coaxed, pressing out another puff.
Dinah, once again, inhaled as best she could before sobbing out and trying to pull away from her puffer and mask.
"Can you set up her nebulizer treatment?" Ally asked her wife, setting Dinah's puffer to the side as she pulled the toddler into her arms and began to bounce her.
"Already on it," Lauren said, having already set up the air compressor and the hose.
"No w-w-want!" Dinah got out as she watched her mommy measure out the dosage of medication for the treatment.
"Baby, baby, shhh. Relax," Ally cooed, cupping Dinah's cheek and turning the girl to look her way instead of Lauren's. "You need medicine to breathe better again, okay? It doesn't hurt."
Even though Ally knew that her daughter was well aware that the treatment didn't hurt, she knew the girl was unable to disassociate the nebulizer treatment from pain since she'd received more of them at the hospital than at home. At the hospital, she'd been poked and prodded, hooked up to machines that made loud noises, and taken away from her mothers an uncountable amount of times for testing. She was scarred, and by default, she was scared of her nebulizer treatments. Even if she was at home.
"Here, it's ready," Lauren said, holding up the little dinosaur mask that had to go over Dinah's mouth and nose.
"Nooo," Dinah sobbed, choking on her sobs as she coughed harshly against Ally's collarbone.
"Let's go to her room," Ally suggested, knowing the treatment took a while and that Dinah would be more comfortable if they cuddled on the single in the nursery.
The mothers moved to set themselves up quickly, Ally managing to get Dinah to relax against her chest while Lauren set the machine on the ground and crouched next to her girls.
"Relax, mija. It's okay," Lauren cooed to her daughter, nodding for Ally to hold the girl in place while she set the mask over her mouth and nose and set the strap around her head.
Dinah cried and coughed as she struggled to wiggle away from her mommy.
"Just breathe," Ally whispered, combing her fingers through the girl's hair while Lauren started the small machine, which began to sputter and rumble as it turned the medicine to vapor in Dinah's mask.
