CHAPTER 19
We get to the beach about twenty-five minutes later. Luke texts me to tell us where the boys are. I text him back and us girls go to the bathroom to get our new bikinis on. Laura has a green fringe one, kind of like mine, Chloe's is a light blue color with darker blue polka dots, and Savannah's is hot pink with gray stripes. I take off my normal clothes, put on my bathing suit, and put my shorts back on. I grab a hair tie off of my wrist and throw my hair back into a messy bun.
When I walk out, the rest of the girls are waiting for me. I have been taking a lot of time lately. "The boys bought towels on the way here," Savannah tells us. I lead the way to the guys and we set our stuff down when I see where they laid out eight towels. I don't see Luke anywhere, though. Trent, Sean, and Jason are all in the water, but Luke is no where to be found.
Suddenly, I feel strong arms wrap around my waist. I scream and I hear Luke's laugh from right next to my ear. "Hey, hey." He says in my ear.
"Hey, hey." He picks me up bridal takes me towards the water.
The cold ocean water hits me like a ton of bricks. It is hot outside, so the water should be warm, right? Wrong. It feels as if I am swimming in the Arctic Ocean. The icy water knocks the breath out of me. "Are you okay?" Luke asks, worry lined in his voice. I nod my head up and down as best as I can. Luke walks me back out of the water and lays me down on a towel.
"Is she okay?" A female voice, who I think is Savannah, asks Luke.
"I don't know. She couldn't talk once we got in the water. I should have just let her get used to it. Gosh, I'm so stupid." Luke beats himself up. I put a hand on his to let him know that it's okay. He looks down at me with a small smile and squeezes my hand. I squeeze his back and that's when everything goes black.
****************
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.
That sounds like a heart monitor. "She just passed out when we got out of the water." Luke's voice tells someone.
"You better not have done this," Oh my. That's my mother's voice.
"Luke," I barely croak out.
"Yes?" He comes rushing to my bedside.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"Saving me." I tell him.
"Anything for you." He says looking at my mother.
"Honey, do you know what happened?" My mom asks, her tone angry.
"Luke and I went into the water and then he carried me out because I got too cold Then I passed out on the towel he set me on," I tell her, my tone matching hers, just a little weaker.
"Then I am sorry, Luke." She apologizes to Luke.
"It's fine. Mrs. Barone. Just a misunderstanding." Luke blows it off.
As soon as he says that, a male doctor walks into the room. "Hello, Mira. I'm Dr. Hayes. You are ready to leave if you want; you were just in a little bit of shock. That's all." He tell me with a smile while looking down at his blue clip board.
"Thank you so much!" Taking him by surprise, I jump out of the uncomfortable hospital bed and give him a tight hug. He returns the embrace, but hesitantly. When I let go, I turn my attention to Luke. "Where is everyone else?"
"They are waiting in the waiting room. Why?" He replies.
"I was wondering if we could go back to the beach." I confess.
