I got home to find an eviction notice on my door.
I tilted my head confusedly, I paid my rent on time and I was quiet. Why was I being kicked out? Maybe he got the wrong door?
I headed to the landlord's place.
It took me a few minutes to get there, but I knocked on the door when I did.
It opened revealing my older landlord, he was around forty. He wrinkled his nose in disgust at me.
I was confused.
I held up the notice in confusion.
"You have a week to get your shit and leave. I don't want any of your kind in my building," he told me flatly.
I continued to look confused.
"Mutant," he spat disgustedly and slammed his door.
My posture deflated, how did he know?
I walked to my apartment, where was I going to go? This was all I could afford with my pay at the bookstore.
When I unlocked my door, my laptop went off.
It was a Skype call from work. I answered.
"Hey man," it was the boss, I didn't like the look on his face.
I waved at him.
"So-uh, well. There's no easy way to say this..."
I felt my stomach sink.
"We have to let you go. Not because you're a mutant. Understand that, but we keep getting threats if we were to keep you. I'm sorry man, but I have to let you go,".
I bowed my head and hung up.
Now I have no job and no house... Now what?
