"Let's go somewhere," he told me, standing up. I was instantly confused, and skeptical.
"Where? My break is only two hours long, you know."
"I'll tell you when we get there." he answered.
"That makes no sense." I mumbled. I rolled my eyes, but followed him anyway.
As we exited the bakery, the cold October air instantly caused goosebumps to form on my skin. I followed Harry down the long winding streets until he stopped in front of a large black car. We both climbed in and he started the engine, driving down the road. It was quiet for a few minutes until I decided to break the silence.
"Are you going to tell me where we're going now?"
Harry looked at me, amusement flashing through his eyes. "No," he answered nonchalantly, and looked back at the road.
I groaned, crossing my arms and scowling at the infuriating male next to me.
Harry chuckled. "Let's play a game," he announced.
"Fine," I answered, "what game?"
"I don't know, you choose."
I looked at Harry incredulously. "If you want to play a game, you have to come up with it!"
"No I don't, I just felt like playing a game." he shrugged, before turning a corner.
"Fine, twenty questions?"
"No."
"Would you rather?"
"No."
"Truth?"
Harry scrunched his nose up. "What's that?"
"It's truth or dare, minus the dare."
"Hell no."
I threw my hands in the air exasperatedly. "You have to pick something!"
"Fine, what was the second one again?"
"Would you rather." I answered.
"Yeah, that one. You start."
"Okay," I began, thinking of a question. "Would you rather amputate your own leg or eat a piece of gum from a bus?"
"Amputate my own leg." Harry answered without a trace of humour.
"Really? That's a bit extreme," I laughed.
"My turn. Would you rather be able to control people's minds or be invisible?"
"Be invisible." I answered.
After about ten more minutes of the game, we both got bored and the car became quiet, the only sounds being the tyres on the road and both of our breathing.
"How much longer till we get there?" I asked, slouching slightly in the upright chair.
"Actually, I think we're here," Harry answered.
I sat up and looked around, instantly recognising the fields of grass leading to the peaceful looking, secluded river.
*Flashback*
"You wanted to see me?" I slurred, walking over to Harry who was perched on the grassy bank overlooking the river.
I could feel the familiar mix of adrenaline and alcohol rushing through my veins, and my mind consuming memories had been successfully pushed back further and further with every numbing shot of vodka I downed.
Harry's head snapped towards me upon hearing my voice and he stood up, walking over. "How did therapy go?" he asked.
"It didn't." I chuckled, "I decided to go drinking with Ella instead."
I stumbled past Harry, falling onto the riverbank. I took my stilettos off and placed my feet in the cool water. Harry regained his seat beside me. I could feel his eyes on me, but I kept mine trained on the soft ripples on the surface of the water. I sighed, taking a packet of cigarettes and a lighter out of the pocket of my leather jacket. Harry immediately pried both items out of my hands and tossed them into the river.
"HARRY!" I screamed, "What on earth did you do that for?"
"Why didn't you go to your therapy session?" he asked, ignoring my question completely.
I sighed dramatically, fisting the grass and pulling it out of the ground. "I didn't want to."
"Elaborate, please?"
I threw the grass into the river before replying. "I didn't feel like lying on some sofa and pouring my feelings out to some stranger who clearly only pretends to care because it's her job and probably gets people like me in every day. Talking about my problems doesn't actually help anything and quite frankly it's time wasting. I'd choose drinking over therapy any day and every day." I pushed my bracelets further up my arms and traced over each scar thoughtfully, not bothering to even look at Harry and the disapproving glare I was surely receiving.
"Faye," he sighed, "please stop shutting the world out.
I shot him a drunk smile, "Too late."
*End of flashback*
"I remember this place," I smiled, looking around at the peaceful setting. The slight breeze was calming, and I liked looking at the trees surrounding the grassy bank.
When I looked up at Harry, he was already looking at me with a small smile on his face.
"What?" I laughed.
"Happiness suits you." he blurted. I could tell by his facial expression and reddening cheeks that he hadn't meant to say that out loud.
"Thanks," I grinned up at him before sitting down and crossing my legs. Harry sat next to me with his long legs outstretched in front of him.
We both sat quietly for a few minutes, enjoying the peace and quiet. A comfortable silence ensued as we were both left to our own thoughts.
I looked past the river to the dense green forest on the other side. My gaze lifted to a couple of birds soaring gracefully through the cloudless blue sky. A couple of years ago I would have scowled at the birds and envied them, but I was proud of the smile that crossed my face as I watched them. No unwanted memories or thoughts clouded my mind at this moment; it was complete and utter bliss.
"What the actual hell?" Harry shouted, flipping off the bird which had just pooed directly on his shoulder. I threw my head back, laughing uncontrollably as he stared at his shirt in disgust.
I couldn't breathe from laughing, and Harry joined in as he saw the state I was in. "I'm glad you find this amusing," he chuckled.
His gaze lifted and his smile immediately dropped as he stared into the woods on the other side of the road. I looked behind me, but couldn't see anything strange.
Harry's jaw clenched and anger burned in his eyes. "Let's go." he growled, his playful mood instantly changing.
I was completely bewildered but complied, following Harry to his car and climbing in to the passenger's seat before he turned on the engine and sped back to the bakery.
