with a single rose in one hand, and my phone in my other, i prance down adelaide street. what a wonderful day it is today.
the sun's radiant rays reflect my mood and no clouds could ever cover up the excitement i feel today.
i was finally going to see my boyfriend of one year again after a month! he flew back today after a family vacation to the bahamas.
in fact, today is our one year anniversary!
nathan wood- the perfect boy. he has everything a girl would look for in a guy. he's affectionate, hot, compassionate, cute, smart, funny, charismatic, thoughtful and a good listener. he is the perfect boyfriend.
i smile as i remember the feeling that shot up my spine every time his bright ocean-blue eyes stared into my ice-blue ones.
i stand next to the train station as i wait for him to arrive.
i wait and wait. he's already thirty minutes late.
finally, i see his tall and broad figure appear in front of me.
as he approaches, i notice the frown his lips mold into and the dark eye circles that appear under his now dull blue eyes. what had happened to turn his usually buoyant personality to this almost menacing demeanor?
i quickly run up to him and embrace him in a hug with tears running down my cheeks.
i don't even know why i'm crying. is it because i've missed him? or is it because he's sad?
"n-nate?"
my arms are draped around him but his remained by his side. we stay in that position for what feels like hours.
eventually, i tore myself from him and looked into his bloodshot eyes.
as if by instinct, i reach up and wipe the tears off his face
we have just reunited after a month, he shouldn't be crying. did he miss me that much? he looks down at me and shakes his head, a small smile appearing on his lips but it disappears almost immediately.
"aviana, forgive me for this," he mumbles and suddenly, his lips are on mine. they feel warm against mine but the kiss is nothing like any other we've ever shared. it's rushed and emotionless. "i'm sure now."
he says something else i don't catch because my vision is still blurry from my tears and my mind is swarming with so many thoughts that i don't hear him.
he turns and starts to walk away with his head down.
i want to run after him, but i don't. what does this mean for us?
i shake all the thoughts out of my head and i hear everything once again.
i hear the blaring sound of train horns and a couple screaming at each other in the distance. at least we didn't argue like that...right?
my phone pings and i see that nathan has sent me a message.
i know you didn't hear me. i've fallen out of love with you. i'm sorry but you can find someone else who can treat you better than i did. goodbye. nathan xx
i angrily swipe away from the text and hurl the rose that i was clutching onto the floor before crushing it with my foot. i let out a helpless sob and shakily pull my phone out and dial my best friend's number. he's the only person other than my family who has been there for me through everything.
"hey avi, what's up?" his cheerful voice piped through the phone.
"h-hi miles. uh where are you right now?"
"aviana! are you okay? i'm coming right now. text me your location," he exclaimed.
"just meet me at the coffee shop on adelaide street," i hiccup, all the feelings rushing back to me again.
"i'll be there as soon as possible. hold on, avi," he encouraged. i nodded even though he can't see me.
within 5 minutes, i see his car pull up outside the coffee shop and he joins me inside. he sits down next to me and gave me a hug that lasted forever. i inhale his sweet-smelling cologne and i immediately smile. i can always count on miles to make me happy again.
"okay avi, now that i'm here, can you please explain what happened?" he asks.
"n-nathan broke up with me," i sob into his shoulder. he tangles his fingers in my toffee brown hair and massages my scalp.
"what?! oh no no no, it's okay. what a jerk. you'll find someone better," he frowns.
"funny, that's exactly what he said," i laugh sarcastically, shaking my head. with miles by my side, i am able to process my thoughts again. "hey miles, thank you so much for coming. really," i weakly smile at the undoubtedly attractive golden-haired boy who just so happens to be my best friend since we were still in diapers.
"it's no problem at all. you know i'd do anything for you," he returns my smile and gives me a small kiss on my forehead. "but you know, i wouldn't mind a little something in return," miles smirks with a twinkle in his eyes.
"sure, i'll buy you a coffee. i need one too." once again, he smiles at me, confirming that i guessed what he wanted correctly.
i collect the two coffees and an extra muffin i had ordered for myself at the counter and just as i turn, i bump into someone which knocks my coffees and muffin out of my full hands.
the coffee spills all over the person i bumped into.
oh no.
i look up with wide eyes and quivering lips to be met with a gorgeous brunette boy who looked around two years older than me.
i feel the heat rise to my cheeks.
"hey..." he pauses a little, unsure of what to call me. before i could open my mouth to respond, he almost growls, "muffin. watch where you're going next time! this shirt was expensive." his tone scares me and pulls me out of a trance i've fallen into. muffin?
he mutters profanities under his breath as he goes to retrieve napkins.
jeez, what got into his pants this morning?
i shrug and dash over to help him with the napkins as i frantically try to absorb as much coffee as possible with them.
the tall stranger shakes his head and brushes my hand away.
i sigh in defeat and return to my seat with miles.
"sorry, something happened. i'll get the coffees later," i apologize to him, looking down.
"avi, it's fine. don't worry about it." miles rubs his hands up and down my arms.
at the corner of my eye, i see the brunette linger at the door before walking out. his gaze on me was steady and intense. it sent shivers down my spine.
i look back at miles to see that he was trying to get my attention. "sorry, what did you say?"
"i said i'll get the coffees instead," he repeats. "is this about nathan? i swear i'll beat him up."
"nathan? who- oh..." miles stares at me as if i had grown four extra heads.
who is this mysterious boy and how did he manage to make me forget about nathan completely?
this boy must be magical. magical. but rude.
miles kindly offers to drive me home and as i step out of his car, my mind still drifts back to the boy from the coffee shop. what is his name?
after a quick bye, i disappear behind my front door.
