Chapter 8

Things have been awkward lately. I haven't seen Kyo since he left that night. And I've been distracted ever since. I can still feel his hot lips on mine and way his soft, blond hair fell through my small fingers. As my mind wandered down that path my phone rang to snap me out of it.

"Hello?" I said after I fumbled around to answer it.

"Nyx, it's Joji."

"Oh hi! What's up?" I said as I flipped through papers at my desk in my office.

"Would you be my date to a ball?" At first I thought he was joking, but then the seriousness in his voice made me realize he wasn't.

"What?" I said without meaning to. I keep doing that.

"It's for a mission and I'd much rather take a real girl than Ichigo dressed up in drag." I laughed and so did he. It was funny.

"Alright, I suppose I'll save you from that." I laughed.

"Thank god! Pick you up tomorrow at 7pm." Joji sounded excited. "Oh and wear something pretty."

"Nah I think I'll just wear my slacks." I joked.

"Haha very funny."

"Well I thought so," I smiled. His laugh is contagious but that doesn't bother me. My coworker walked by and smiled at me and waved. I waved back and rolled my eyes when she mouthed 'Talking to your boyfriend?'.

"Well I got to go back to work so I'll see you tomorrow." Joji said.

"Yeah see you!" I hung up and put my phone down. I guess I should save his number in my phone huh? I still have lots to do today and I should probably do some of tomorrows work as well so that I can get off early.

It wasn't till dark until I got off. Again I walked home in the dark alone and scared. Someone was walking behind me but I don't think they're following me. Before I knew what I was doing I pulled out my phone and held it to my ear. I don't know who I was calling, I don't have anyone I would call.

"Hello?" Kyo. That's Kyo's voice. I called Kyo. "Hey idiot what do you want? I'm at work so make it fast." Even though he sounded harsh I was okay. Just hearing his voice lifted me up.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I didn't mean to bother you. I... I just got a little spooked while walking home." I glanced behind me and saw the person once behind me was gone.

"You're going home at this hour?" He sounds worried.

"Yeah but I'm fine now." I said and went to hang up.

"Wait!" I stopped as I heard him shout. "You... you can stay on the line with me until you get home... if that'll make you feel better." he said slowly as if he was too embarrassed to tell me.

"Are you worried about me?" I smiled from ear to ear.

"What? No! Why the hell would I be worried about you?" Kyo sounded flustered. I must've caught him off guard. After a moment of silence he spoke up again, "Hey. You aren't actually going with Joji tomorrow right?"

"Yeah I am. Why?" I asked. I heard him sigh. He does that a lot so why is now different?

"Never mind. Just let me know when you're home cause I'll be pulling an all nighter." he said kind of coldly.

"Where do you work?" I asked.

"No where," I just rolled my eyes and laughed at his vague answer. We talked until I got home, then I let him get back to work. To tell the truth though, I didn't want to let him go.
