"Make sure you stay on your bed," I told him.
The Prince's bed was basically a cushion that I placed on my desk. I add a headrest on there too just for extra comfiness. Stepping away from the desk, I showed him his bed. In response, the Prince/ the kitten dropped on all fours and laid on his belly. He didn't move off my bed.
"You better get up here before I pick you up and put you on there," I warned.
There was no way I was going to be sharing my bed with a vampire disguised as a kitten. Even if it was a very cute kitten.
The Prince didn't say anything. I would hope not. Kittens shouldn't talk. But he didn't move an inch. Narrowing my eyes at him, I walked towards the bed and plucked him off the bed by the scruff of his neck. The kitten meowed in surprise and I almost put him down, almost. Instead, I quickly walked him to the desk and placed him on the cushion. He meowed in disapproval.
"Don't you start. I'm housing you here and I don't have to do that. If you're going to be staying in my room, there's going to be some boundaries. Got that?"
'Don't get too cocky,' a sudden voice said.
My eyes widened. I swirled around but there wasn't anyone in the room. My gaze settled back on the Prince. No, it couldn't be. He couldn't be telepathic as well. That would just be too much.
"Did you just - ?" I left the question hanging.
This time there was silence. Right. Even if the Prince was telepathic, he wasn't going to say it outright. No. That would be too easy.
"You know what? Whatever. Just stay there and don't go anywhere."
I grabbed a pair of pajamas from my closet and went to the restroom to change. In there, I got ready for bed. When I entered my room again, the Prince was still on his cushion. As long as he stayed on there, I didn't mind so much having him stay here tonight.
Sleep wasn't easy. As a matter of fact, sleep was the furthest thing on my mind. My eyes refused to close. I stared at the dark ceiling waiting for the exhaustion to kick in but it never did. I glanced at the Prince. He wasn't moving. The furball stayed on his cushion.
It was some time a little after midnight when I gave up. Tonight was not going to have any sleep. I turned on the lamp beside my bed. The sudden light burned my eyes. Glancing at my desk, the Prince didn't seem bothered by the light. He remained curled on the cushion.
At least one of us could sleep. He probably slept over at people's houses every night. This wasn't anything new to him. I couldn't say the same. Instead of trying to sleep, pulled my bag pack of the floor and dropped it on my lap. If I couldn't sleep, I would at least try to catch up on my work. There was no use getting bad grades. I still needed to graduate high school regardless of all the drama going on around me.
In the dim light, time was fleeting. I practiced a few pages of math problems, caught up in my sciences, and started on that novel for English class. I got to the middle of the book before I placed it down on the bed. I pulled the covers up to my chin and snuggled into my pillow.
What was I going to do about all of this? The Prince couldn't stay here. I'd allowed it tonight because his logic had made sense and well, part of me, kind of felt bad about what was happening to him. In part, I did think it was his fault but no one deserved to be framed.
We needed to figure this out. Going around questioning everyone in the video wasn't going to work. Without knowing the Prince, I would have believed that the Prince had crashed into that place and hurt all those people. Carlos hadn't said much and the Prince, as far as I knew, hadn't talked with the vampire terrorists. If only we could send the Prince out in front of the media and tell them he was framed.
If we kept him in the public eye . . . No, that wouldn't work. I sighed. This was such a headache. Why couldn't the Prince tell everyone where he was at the time? It was bizarre that no one saw him. Had he been alone? He was probably with someone's daughter, I thought. They're keeping their relationship a secret.
That complicated things. I picked up the novel again and started reading. I was going to go crazy thinking about all of this. I needed a break.

I opened my eyes and found my face pressed against my pillow. I had dozed off. The light from the lamp was dim. I needed to change the light bulb soon. Something caught my attention on the floor. I pushed myself up on one elbow. It was the Prince. Instead of being in his kitten form, he had transformed back. Was he asleep?
He was on his back, hands on his chest, unmoving. So, this was how a vampire slept. Shouldn't that be during the day though? I sat up to take a better look at him. It was almost 3 am. How long did vampires stay asleep? Putting it into perspective, I didn't know a lot about vampires. While my history teacher tried his best to teach us, I'd never really bothered to retain that information.
I glanced at my bag pack. I knew there was a pamphlet in there somewhere that the government had given out at school about vampires. There should be a website too. It seemed like I had more reading to do. Plus, it might even help me figure out how to fix all of this. It was worth trying. I doubted the answer would be in my history book but maybe it would give me an insight of why the Prince did what he did.

My mind teetered on the verge of unconsciousness when I heard a tune chirping next to my ear. The alarm was sounding. It was 7 am. I kept my eyes closed wishing it wasn't morning already. It had been a bad idea trying to research vampires. What had I learned? Just trying to recall the information made my head spin. Today was not going to be a good day.
The alarm continued to chirp. Whose bright idea was to put birds singing as an alarm? Why had I chosen that again? It didn't matter. Five more minutes. I needed five more minutes and everything would be fine.
Something soft brushed against my face. My eyes snapped open. There was a kitten right in front of me. I moved back and felt empty air. With a yelp, I toppled off the bed. My elbow hit the ground and my legs followed afterward.
'Is this how human get out of bed each morning?' asked the same voice from last night.
Even through the haze in my mind, I knew the Prince had spoken. While a kitten couldn't talk, he had to have mind speech or something. Licking his chops, the Prince settled on his haunches.
'So, what's for breakfast?'
