** Betty and Jughead haven't seen each other in four years (since they parted ways and decided to break up) And now Jughead needs a favour from Betty to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of his mom**

"Arch, i can't do this." Jughead says holding his cell phone shakily in his hand.

"Do you want to start off your new relationship with your mom with a lie?" Archie tries to convince his best friend, "Maybe you two could even connect again."

Jughead reconsiders. He hasn't gone one day without missing her. He new breaking up was a bad idea. They were both 18 and off to different colleges so in that moment, it was the simplest thing to do.

But now it's four years later, they're 21 but still haven't spoken since that day at Pops Chock'lit Shoppe.

Jughead has been sweating already. He didn't want to say goodbye. He didn't want to let go the love of his life.

He's been waiting for her at Pops an hour early because he was nervous. He never really thought this day would come, but here it is.

Then he seen the most beautiful blonde walk through the doors and search around the room for a second until her eyes landed on his.

He standed to welcome her into his arms. She gladly walked into them and breathed in his smell. His hand found her hair and pressed her to his chest holding back tears.

They finally pulled away and sat across from each other never letting go of each other's hands.

Never saying a word, Betty looked into Jugheads eyes and immediately started to tear up.

"I can't imagine not seeing you everyday until Christmas." she said quietly. Christmas break was when they both decided they'd come back to Riverdale for two weeks.

Jughead nodded not wanting to speak because he knew he wouldn't be able to hold back his tears if he spoke.

"Jug, i've been thinking all day," she paused and squeezed his hands. "i think..." she couldn't even finish her sentence.

"Betty what is it?" Jughead questioned her, now concerned.

She took a deep breath, "I think, we should break up." she spoke in barely a whisper.

Jughead's heart stopped. He heard nothing but buzzing coming from every direction.

"You want to break up?" his voice cracked.

"I don't want to, Juggie, trust me it's the last thing i want." she sobbed. "But, i just don't know how we'd work out. We'll eventually just break up and end up hating each other so can't we just leave things nice and walk back through it later?"

"Nice? You think this is nice?" he hissed.

"No, of course not Jug-" he let go of her hands and stood up.

He took one last long look at the only woman he's ever loved who just stabbed him in the heart repeatedly, and left without one more word spoken.

Jughead hesitates for a moment. "For fucks sake." he grunts and starts dialling Betty's phone number.

It rings twice before she answers, "Betty Cooper speaking."

His heart skips a beat. She sounds the same. Has the same excitement for life that he remembers from long ago.

"Hi Betts." Jughead was the only person she's ever aloud to call her that so she knows right away.

"Juggie?" her voice cracks.

He can't help but smile at her saying his name. "Long time no talk. I just got into town this morning." she continues.

"No kidding." he nervously chuckles.  She's here?

"How are you?" she sounds like she truly cares. That hasn't changed.

"I'm great!" was the initial response but he can't lie to her. "Actually... it's been a little rough."

"Talk to me." her voice sweet as honey.

"Uh well my moms back in my life." he starts.

"That's great, Jug!"

He laughs nervously. Here goes nothing, "Yeah but i told her i had a girlfriend, i don't," he says quickly making sure she knows. "And i might have described you. I said i'd bring her over to my moms Christmas thing tomorrow..." he leads off.

"... Are you asking me to pretend to be your girlfriend just because you told your mom you would?" she sounds insulted but at the same time intrigued.

"No! Yes? I-i mean you don't have to i was just-" she cuts him off.

"What time?"

"Huh?"

"What time is the party?" she asks once more.

"Um, tomorrow night at 8:30." he's stunned she actually said yes.

"Great, i'll be there." She says.

"Betty, you don't have to do this." Archie slaps his arm and mouths 'what the hell dude?' but Jughead feels bad. He hasn't talked to this woman, that he's still in love with, in four years and he's suddenly calling her asking her for a huge favour that only saves his ass.

"I know, but i want to." she admits. "You're still my friend, Jughead. Friends help each other out. Plus i miss you, Juggie. It's been forever." she whispers the last words.

"I know, Betts. I am so sorry for everything." he apologizes trying to keep his voice steady.

"Well, surely we are past that. We've both moved on by now." her tone changes.

"Yeah." he lies.

There's a long moment of silence. It's not awkward but it isn't comfortable for Jughead with Archie mouthing some nonsense at him.

"See you tomorrow then." Betty breaks the silence.

"Meet at Pops?"

"In our booth." he can hear the smile in her voice.

"Be there at 10:30. We can have brunch." he said as kind of a question.

"For sure." She agreed.

"Laters." he hung up his phone and smiled from ear to ear.

"God, man. You're still head over heals for her, aren't you?" Archie chuckles at his poor, poor friend.
