Jughead waits... and waits... and waits. Although, it's his fault for showing up an hour early. He didn't sleep all night. He watched as every hour on the clock ticked, until finally at 7:00 he got up and showered.
He couldn't find an outfit until he spotted his old jean jacket that he hasn't worn in a year. That might bring up some good moments they've shared. Maybe even make her smile.
Pop Tate has asked if Jughead wanted to order anything twice but he's way too nervous to eat or drink anything. It would probably come right back up.
He sighed and fidgeted around with the only two bracelets he's ever worn. One from Jellybean, she was so excited to see the reaction of her big brother open the first Christmas gift she's ever gotten him.
The second, shocker, was from Betty. She had picked it out for him at a store once. He wasn't too sure but it wasn't before Betty just had to comment that guys who wear bracelets are more attractive. He fully knew it was just so he'd get it, but it worked anyways.
Way to go, Loser. She's gonna think you're still obsessed with her. He thought to himself playing with the bracelet he should have taken off.
"Juggie?" a soft voice calls, breaking his thoughts.
His heart drops to his feet as he scrambles to stand up to greet her.
She's even more beautiful than before. She has the same face and makeup. Same blonde, gorgeous hair. Her body, still perfect and a little curvy in all the right places. She's wearing a long black coat and underneath she's wearing a pale pink blouse that's tucked into her high waisted skinny jeans. Her hair is lose and just past her shoulders.
"Betty," seeing her feels like a breath of fresh air. Seeing her happy is both a relief and a punch in the gut.
She smiles big and isn't awkward about walking to him for a hug, unlike Jughead who only opens his arms at the last minute and is looking at her like she's an unknown creature.
Her arms stretch around his neck as his close around her waist. She smells the same too.
They both release and sit down across from one another. "Long time no see,"
He takes all of her in. Her presence that he hasn't had in so long.
They both sit down and look at each other. They order something to eat and drink and spend an hour talking. They've both spent the last four years of their lives apart. Met new people, went out with new people.
They both led different lives than they did in high school and now they aren't apart of those new lives. Maybe asking Betty to do this wasn't so bad. Maybe they can at least be friends again.
"So tell me," Betty says all of a sudden.
"Tell you what?" Jughead asks eating the last bite of his burger.
"Everything about our relationship. How did we meet? When?" Betty questions.
"Uhh, i guess i didn't really think about that." He shyly says hoping to not embarrass himself.
"Silly. What if your mom asks us questions which, trust me she's a girl, she will." Betty giggles.
"Maybe..." Jughead leads off, thinking.
"Maybe we never broke up," Betty chimes in. For some reason that sentence made Jughead's heart stop. At the thought that they might still be together if he would've fought for her instead of leaving her.
"Okay," he says slowly. "So we've been dating for seven years?" Jughead cocks one eyebrow.
"Damn were good." Betty jokes. They both break into laughter.
"Hey, isn't that the bracelet I got you?" she spots his bracelet he forgot to hide.
He sighs, "Yeah. If it's too weird i can take it off." he starts to loosen it off of his wrist.
She places both of her hands on his wrist to stop him from taking it off, "Jug, please don't. It's yours and it still looks just as good on you." She winks at him.
"Crap, what should I wear?" Betty asks frantically.
"Um I don't know. Whatever you want, i guess." he replies.
"Well is this party fancy? Is there a theme?"
"I mean I don't think so. It's a Christmas party," Jughead shrugs.
"Oh boy, you haven't changed much, Juggie," she shakes her head while gathering her her purse and coat.
They stand at the same time.
"I got to go find an outfit for tonight, but meet me here at, say 8:15?" He helps her with her wool coat.
Jughead kindly smiles and nods. Betty leans for a casual kiss on the cheek and he returns it at the same time.
"See you later!" she waves back at him as she leaves the dinner.
He slumps back in his chair and grins like a fool in the booth alone.
