The party was in full swing by the time I got there. As soon as I stepped in, Jessica came rushing up to me.

“Scar!” I gave her a look. “I mean Scarla! Where have you been?” She crinkled her nose. “And why is there blood on your mouth?”
I brushed past her and headed for the dance floor.
“Seriously, you people are blind. It’s not blood. It’s Bloodsucker Lipstick, cost me a fortune you know.” I called over my shoulder.
“This one’s for a pretty little vampire named Scarla.” The DJ was saying.

I looked around for him and saw Ethan sitting at in the DJ’s area. He saw me looking and waved. A few seconds later my favourite song came on.
I looked at Ethan again and smiled. He smiled back and blushed. I’ve never seen a goth blush before. I blushed as well and started dancing. A minute later, Ethan appeared and took my hands in his.

“I thought you weren’t coming!” I shouted over the music.
“I lied.” He yelled back. “I wanted to surprise you!”
I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.
“Well you definitely surprised me!” I laughed.
He smiled and looked into my eyes.
“You look beautiful.” He told me.

I looked up at him.
“So do you. I mean, not beautiful, handsome.” I cringed. I’m such an idiot!
He smiled again.
I took a deep breath and looked up at him again.
“Ethan…”
He looked at me.
“Yeah?”
“I… um… want to tell you that… I…”
He looked at me intently.
“Um…”
“She wants to tell you that she still loves me and not you.” Someone behind me said.

I spun around, and there was Brad, with an evil smile on his face.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded.
“Well it’s a school dance isn’t it? And I’m part of the committee anyway, so I sort of have to be here.” He replied. “Oh yeah, and we were going together as well weren’t we?” He looked at Ethan and smirked. “She’s been planning to go to the dance with me for simply ages. Haven’t you babe?”

I turned to Ethan, who was looking at me sadly.
“Ethan, I swear I didn’t. He’s just angry that I’m dating you instead of him. Please don’t believe anything he says. He’s a liar.” I told him desperately.
Ethan shook his head.
“Don’t bother Scarla, if you want him, you should have him. Why bother pretending to like me when you like him so much more?” He shook his head again and walked off.
“No, Ethan, wait!” I called after him. “Please don’t leave me with him.” I added quietly.

Brad pulled me into his arms.
“I thought he’d never leave. But I’m glad he did, aren’t you?”
I struggled out of his grip and turned to face him.
“Why do you have to ruin everything?” I asked.
“Well, you like me not him, so I-”
“WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING?!” I screamed.
Brad looked around frantically.
“Now, it’s not nice to scream, someone will think something’s wrong.”
I glared at him.
“Something IS wrong. You.” I told him angrily.
“There’s nothing wrong with me. But you on the other hand…”
“WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A BULLY?!” I yelled.
“WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH AN ANNOYING LITTLE TURD?” He yelled back.

A couple of students were staring at us. I didn’t care. I needed to get away from him.
“Are you trying to sabotage my life or something?” I demanded.
“No. I’m trying to sabotage you and that boy’s lives.” He replied.
“He’s not just a boy, he’s my boyfriend, and if you dare do anything to hurt him, I’ll hurt you.” I threatened.
He laughed. “I’d like to see you try.”
I took a deep breath. “Do you really want to see?”
He smirked. “Come at me babe.”
“Well, you asked for it.” I said.
By this time, we had a little crowd around us.
I cracked my knuckles and took a deep breath.
“Taking your time babe? That’s alright, I’m ready when-”
“STOP CALLING ME THAT!”
I punched him in the jaw. He rubbed it and smiled at me weakly.
“You want a fight babe? I’ll give you a fight!”

He stood there, fists at the ready.
“Come on babe, let’s fight.”
“I SAID STOP CALLING ME BABE!” I screamed.
And with all my might, I kicked him in a very painful spot. He fell to the floor, panting and clutching his… well you know.
Jessica appeared in the crowd and ran to his side.
“Call an ambulance! Someone help him!” She shrilled.
I stood there, watching the scene. Jessica was trying to resuscitate him for some reason, the principal was demanding to know what happened, students were dialing the hospital, and standing on the edge of the crowd, was Ethan. He saw me watching him and walked outside. I followed him out. He sat down on a bench. I sat next to him. He moved away from me. I moved closer.

“Why are you even bothering to talk to me Scarla? You want Brad, you can have him.” He sniffed.
I stared at him.
“Did you not see what happened in there? I caused him to go to the hospital! Why would I kick a guy in his thingamajigy if I wanted him? I HATE Brad! He’s a selfish turd!” I cried.

Ethan chuckled.
I glared at him.
“This is not a laughing matter Ethan!”

“It’s just the way you say it that’s funny!” He said.
He gazed at me.
"You surprise me Scarla. Every time I look at you and you're looking back at me, you surprise me. Every time you laugh at my lame jokes, you surprise me."

“Are you calling me funny?” I pretended to be angry.
“Yes, you’re a very funny little vampire.” He replied.
“You forgot beautiful.” I flipped my hair over my shoulder.
“You’re a very beautiful, funny little vampire” He smiled at me, and I smiled at him. We smiled at each other for a while.
“Scarla…”
I held a finger up to his lips.
“Shut up. I need to tell you what I wanted to tell you before.”

He smirked and motioned for me to carry on.
“I have to whisper it because it’s a secret.” I said.
He nodded. “Is it a good secret?” He asked
I nodded and leaned toward him. But instead of whispering into his ear, I kissed him on the lips.
He pulled away after a bit and we gazed at eachother.
“I love you Ethan.” I whispered finally. And I meant it.
