<Avalie's Pov>

They blindfolded me once they pulled me out into the hallway, which seemed pointless to me. I was already captured. Why would it matter if I saw where I was going?

But nonetheless, I focused on every twist and turn the guards forced me down. In the event that I did find a way to get Steve and I out here, I would need to know the quickest way out.

Steve. I needed to get him out. Seeing him for the first time back there almost killed me single handedly, sickness or none. When I turned myself into Hydra, I fully expected to die here. I fully expected to obediently be probed or maimed or whatever they wanted to do with me--as long as they were distracted and the war was subsided. But now that Steve is still here, I can't give up like that. I have to gather information, and then use it to bust us out of here.

I can die when he's safe. If not, then I'll die twice.

When they took my blindfold off, I was in an open, white room. They threw me down into a chair forcefully, and I couldn't help but grumble a little bit. Then that grumble turned into a cough. And that cough turned into a blood-splattering fit.

Brunsen surveyed me curiously. "So it's true?" he said. "The cancer has already settled in?"

I froze. Already? I wiped my mouth. "You know what this is?"

Brunsen grinned. He probably had me right where he wanted me. I was vulnerable. He had the answers I needed. "I might."

"Don't be coy," I spat. "Hydra needs me for whatever reason, so you'll tell me how to fix this because it's killing me."

"I know what it's doing," he said. "I did create it, after all."

My face contorted. My head spun with information, and I didn't know how to process it all. He created this cancer. He gave it to me. But how? Why? "When did you... How did you...?"

"I didn't touch you, Ms. Daniels. This is the first time I'm seeing you face to face. But she was right: you are beautiful," he said.

"Who said?" I asked him. He was being frustratingly vague, and I knew he was doing it on purpose. But I felt so close to the truth. I just needed to pry for a little longer. "What do you mean "she"?"

But he shook his head. The little asshole. "Mmmm I could tell you. But that would be too easy. Instead, how about I heal you?"

I sat up even more. Could it really be that easy? "Seriously?"

"Of course. You're no use to me sick. I need you to be able to use your abilities."

He grabbed a syringe off of the table next to me and then produced a small vile out of his pocket. It contained a green substance which had to of been the cure. As he put the syringe in the bottle to gather its contents, something just didn't make sense to me.

"So you're willingly giving me back my abilities to time travel?" I asked.

Brunsen snickered. "Don't think you're so special. All you can do is time travel in your sleep, it's not like I'm giving you the ability to escape the facility or anything."

That's when I realized that he must not know the extent of my abilities. To be fair, even I don't know the limits of them. But he doesn't know that I not only can time travel, but I can teleport. Which, yeah, does give me the ability to escape the facility. Kiss my ass, Brunsen.

He put the needle in my arm and injected me with the serum, and almost immediately I could feel my never-ending headache clearing. It flowed through me fairly quick, for all throughout my body I felt my cells repairing. Even on the surface of my skin I could see the bruises and weak places healing.

"It will take about 12 hours to fully go into effect," he said. He motioned to the guards by the door. "Until then, you're useless. Take her back to the room."

"Wait, one thing first," I called to him. He held up his hand and the guards paused.  "Don't hurt Steve. Just please, let him go. You have no use for him."

Brunsen shrugged. "That is true. but we're going to hang on to him as a little...incentive for you to work with us. We've realized by now that we can't hurt you directly. But if we hurt him instead, maybe you'll comply."

"I'll do everything you tell me to, I promise. Just let him go," I begged.

"No."

"Then at least give him medical treatment. Or let me into the same cell as him," I tried to reason.

And to my surprise, his face softened in thought. "I guess that can be arranged." He turned to the guards again. "Take her back to the room and trade her for Rogers. Bring him here to be treated and then return him to the same cell as Ms. Daniels here."

"Thank you," I told him, and I felt a tension in my chest release. Knowing that he'll be treated made me feel better, as well as knowing that I could at least touch him now. And he wouldn't be touched as long as I agreed to everything, which should be easy.

But as the guards lead me away again, Brunsen's words echoed in my head. "12 hours." I suppose once Steve was healed, it really wouldn't matter whether we were in the same cell or not. It wouldn't matter whether my compliance determined whether or not he would get hurt.

Because within the next 12 hours, I would figure out a way to bust us out of here. Within the next 24 hours, we would be back to S.H.I.E.L.D. And then within the next 48, we would be marching to Hydra's door to end this war once and for all.

Sorry that I took forever to update and sorry that this is kind of a short chapter. I love you all!

Also, can you see where this story is going? Do you think you know what Brunsen meant by "she"? Do you think Avalie is genetically compromised or a Hydra experiment?

Let me know your theories!
