"I'm getting hungry, and I don't know what kind of food Sterling has during initiation week. Do you want to stop and get some breakfast?" Gus asks causing me to look up from the game I had been previously playing on my phone. I look at the time on my watch and realize its past noon.

"Isn't it a little late for breakfast?" I ask him in amusement. Gus shakes his head and replies, "Never too late for breakfast." I lean forward in my seat and get our driver, Jaxs, attention. Jax is a kind thirty-something year old who works as one of our fathers drivers. Once I have his attention I ask him to take the next exit, so we could stop for something to eat. He simply nods in reply and switches lanes.

"Speaking of Sterling, are you ready?" Gus says, as our switch lanes to take the next exit ahead. Sterling is the boarding school we are going to this year, as a matter of fact, were on our way there now. It will be our first year attending, so everything will be new, but we made the decision to come.

"Seriously? You should have asked if Sterling is ready for us." I reply cockily. Back in our home town, Gus and I are notorious for the pranks we've pulled on people, that didn't change the when we moved to live with our absentee father, and it surely won't be changing now.

"Yeah, you're right. So, any ideas for some start out pranks?" Gus asks as Jack pulls into the parking lot of a little diner.

"I've got a few, what about you?" I ask. We invite Jax to eat with us knowing if we do not offer he will not come and because the few months weve been staying with our father we have come to know our not very talkative driver quite well. Our mother had always taught us that it doesnt matter who someone is or what social status they have, if theyre kind to you, youre kind to them.

After we all get out of the get out of the SUV and head inside, a very perky woman greets us as we enter.

"Hi there! Welcome to Maria's Diner, please feel free to sit wherever you like. I will be with you three in just a moment." She says, motioning to the mostly filled seats, then heads over to another table and greets them. Gus, Jax and I snag a booth in the back corner. Jax grabs a menu and begins to look over it while Gus and I talk.

The diner was very homey, it was refreshing, seeing as we'd been staying with our father who was very modern and high-tech, which is not what we were used to. The walls were painted a light blue, and the floor was black and white tile. It honestly looked like it was taken right out of a movie, but still had an original feel to it.

"So..." I say questionably to Gus, waiting for his answer on my earlier question.

"I've got some, still working out a few of the kinks though." He says glancing around the diner. "I like it here. It feels welcoming, like home." He says absentmindedly, I laugh at him, because I thought the same thing, and nod, joining him in looking around. It reminds me of our home with mom, ya know? He says, his voice thick with emotion. I don't reply.

I see the perky woman heading our way and sit up a little, Gus does the same.

"Hello again, I'm Maria, I'll be taking care of you today. Can I start you boys out with some drinks?" She asks smiling.

Gus clears his throat and swipes a hand down his face. "Are you the owner of this diner?" Gus asks. He wants to someday own a small restaurant of his own. She smiles at him and nods.

"The one and only, why'd you ask? Is there something wrong?" She asks, a flash of concern coming over her face which she quickly masks with a smile.
