Back to Training

This chapter turned out way different than I thought it would. Just a little training scene Rogue has with Logan. A bit of filler but a fun scene.

Rogue was able to go back to her regular routine, since there hadn't been anymore incidences, and Collin didn't have anything new to report. Scott, Jean and Bobby returned from Chicago and didn't have any real proof that this FOH organization had anything to do with the fire, but it still didn't ease her mind. She had adsorbed Duncan's mind before, and if he was playing puppet to some unknown villain it would make him even more dangerous. Since Jean dumped him after learning he only wanted to use her powers for selfish reasons, he became even more embittered and made it his mission to punish mutants for any reason.

Even though she was scared, she kept her feelings to herself. Only the professor knew for sure, telling her psychically that he and the others would protect her. She put on the brave front for everyone else, especially Kurt. She didn't want her little brother worrying about her, and even though he never voiced it, she knew Remy was worried.

Rogue woke up early that morning in her own bed. Apparently, she had fallen asleep on the sofa in the rec room the night before. She realized Remy had carried her to her bedroom when she noticed the card on her nightstand with a red rose attached to it. He was always doing little things like that. It brought a smile to her face, seeing the man she loved being so attentive.

She crawled out of bed and made her way to the bathroom, seeing that she had a morning training session with Logan. Rogue learned long ago that being late wasn't an option. She knew she was his favorite, but even with that advantage, he didn't cut her any slack, if anything he was harder on her.

After taking a shower and putting a brush through her hair, she made her way out to the yard to meet Logan. It was the obstacle course today, but knowing her mentor he would surprise her with at least a half a dozen new traps.

"Mornin', Logan," Rogue said as she approached him. She had felt more at ease today then she had before this whole thing started, and she just wanted to resume her normal life.

"Ready to get back to training?" he asked as he leaned against one of the trees while puffing his cigar.

"Ready as I'll ever be," she said eying the woods. These trees looked as they normally did, but that didn't mean that Logan didn't make some adjustments. "So same rules as before?"

"Little different, this time you gotta hunt me, and there's only five minutes on the clock."

"Okay," Rogue said but didn't look confident. Although she was good at tracking, Logan was another story, but she was able to tap into the heightened senses abilities that she once absorbed from Sabertoothe even though they weren't as strong as Logan's, she would be at least able to hold her own in a game like this. Suddenly she could hear everything, the birds chirping, the rustle of leaves through the trees and even the slight wind shifts in the air.

Running through the woods she noticed an obvious trap, a bed of leaves on the ground, its thickness hiding the ground underneath. She jumped high enough into the air to grab onto a thick tree branch. She hoisted herself onto the tree to secure herself and saw a loose branch and threw it as hard as she could onto the bed of leaves which collapsed to reveal the deep hole beneath it.

"Amateur," she said and let out a small laugh. How could Logan think she would fall for that, but suddenly the branch she was sitting on gave way and she saw the clean cut before falling, but she was able to grab onto another branch and anchor herself to the other side. She managed to land on the ground inches away from the trap. She walked slowly away knowing she could be in peril again at any moment.

She could smell Logan but he was still a distance away and she looked at her stop watch and saw that she had a little over two minutes remaining. She looked ahead to see another pile of leaves, but she noticed a rope tied around a tree. Did he really think he would get her with that? She climbed up one of the nearby trees and took out her cutting knife and cut off a branch and topped it downward. She heard something snap and realized it was a bear trap or what she thought was a bear trap. No, it was a catapult. She jumped from one tree to the next, barely hanging on. She saw mounds of dirt and debris fly into the air. Some of it hit her, but not enough to throw her too off balance. She able to pull herself up and took out the grabbling hook she had on her belt and scale down beyond the trap. She landed on the ground and brushed the dirt that landed on her uniform.

"Okay, Logan, where are you?" she asked herself out loud. She walked on being wary. He almost got her twice, but she knew all too well three was the charm. Less than a minute to go, but just as she passed one of the larger oak trees, she felt something wrap around her feet and lift her off the ground. She yelled out startled until she realized she was hanging upside down.

"Dam it!" she yelled out. She hoisted up the upper part of her body and grabbed onto a branch. It didn't look too strong, but it was enough to allow her to grab her cutting knife and cut the rope that was keeping her hostage. As soon as she was loose the branch gave way, and she fell onto the ground and landed on her side.

She was able to pick herself off the ground and continue on. She could hear laughter in the distance as she shot off into a run and tackled the source of the laughter. "That was a dirty trick, Logan!" she yelled as she stood up on her feet. She looked at her stopwatch. It had twenty seconds to spare. "I win," she said while holding it up for Logan to see.

"Where did you learn a move like that?" he asked shaking his head. "Never seen you do that before."

"Gambit," she said and walked off.

"Figures," he said, knowing Rogue could hear him. Now she was the one laughing. "Hit the showers."

Rogue was beat after the training session and a good hot shower sounded really good at that moment.
