Draco's POV
Tonight is the night that the dark lord goes after the boy. He is back at Hogwarts and now is the time to strike. I know heather is there, I don't want to go. There was a force field type deal around the castle but I apparated in before it was up. I was tasked with keeping potter from destroying the crown. I grabbed Goyle and Blaise and went to the ROR. Potter went in before us and he seemed to be alone. We watched intently as he grabbed the crown.
"I think you have something of mine Potter." I yelled. The crown flew from his hands and somewhere else.
"And what would that be?" he asked.
"I think you know! this one is my mother's. Powerful but it doesn't quite understand me. you know what I mean?" I asked.
"Expelliarmus" Granger said coming up behind him. Ron, brianna, and heather were with her. Heather gave me a sad look. Ron came charging after us and we ran. Harry was trying to get the crown but I didn't care anymore. Goyle used a fire spell to shoot at Ron but ended up lighting the whole place on fire. We climbed up the stacks of stuff but Goyle fell into the flames. I could hear heather yelling for me across the blaze. We reached the top and had nowhere else to go. I yelled for heather and didn't hear anything. Finally we saw brooms flying towards us. I reached for heather but fell short. Harry grabbed me and Ron grabbed Blaise. We flew from the room and fell onto the floor. Heather held onto my while Ron killed the crown and kicked it into the room as the door shut. Heather slapped me across the face.
"What was that for?!" I asked.
"Everything!" she screamed at me.
"You guys can go to couples therapy later, we have to go," Harry snapped. I gave him a dirty look and grabbed heather's hand.
"Come with me and I will protect you," I begged.
"I can't.. I'm not finished here." she said getting up and going with her friends. I followed after them. "Draco please, he would kill you if he knew what you were doing, go to your mother,"
"I do not care anymore what he will do. I want to protect you so we can move on after this." I said. She stopped.
"I'll catch up," she sighed. We were finally alone for the first time in what seemed liked forever. "Draco, we are on different teams here, and I don't want you to get hurt for it."
"I just want to keep you safe. It's all I ever wanted to do. I don't even care that you're muggle born anymore, I just want to be with you," I told her. Her eyes started to sparkle with tears but she held them back.
"I have to help Draco, I can't just let them die without me even trying to help." She said.
"Then let me help you," I tried convincing her.
"I can't risk it, you getting hurt," she whispered before putting her lips in mine. I hadn't kissed her in months. I wrapped my arms around her waist and held on for dear life. She pulled away a little too soon for my liking. "I love you Draco"
"I love you too," I smiled. She tugged on my hand as we made our way back to the battle. Any spell shot at her, I deflected. she started to get annoyed at me but it was ok. Finally a voice broke through the fighting.
"I call my forces back now. you have fought valiantly. Bury your dead with dignity. Harry potter I now speak directly to you. On this night, you have let your friends die for you. the greatest dishonor......" I zoned out after that part.
"You should go Draco," heather said.
"No I'm staying," I told her. Surprisingly she didn't argue. We went inside to the nurses wing and saw who was alive and who was dead. Lupin and Tonks lay still holding hands, lifeless. Heather let out a soft sob, she was ever so fond of Lupin. As we got farther in, Heather's pace slowed to a stop. Her eyes were fixed dead ahead on a body. I saw the flicker of red hair and that's when I knew. Heather collapsed in the arms of Molly who too was sobbing. Fred was lying lifeless on the cot with his family lying around him crying. I felt kinda bad. He was kind to heather when I wasn't, when she needed him most. And now he was gone.
