Chapter 43

Daichi had his ear pressed to the door. "Sit down, Daichi." Shu said, yawning. It was two in the morning and they were all up the hospital. Kyara's head was pillowed on Shu's lap. Shu was struggling to keep his eyes open. He told Kyara that he'd watch Daichi while she slept. Mizuki and Subaru were in the other room. Mizuki's waters had broken four hours ago.

"But Dad, I want to see Aunt Mizuki!! She said I could be the first to hold Dāku!!" Complained Daichi. "Be quiet, Daichi. You mother's asleep." Shu replied, kissing Kyara's forehead.

"She's here." Subaru said as he opened the door. The white haired vampire was drenched in sweat and his right hand looked dead. Daichi cheered and pushed passed his uncle and ran into the room. Kyara stirred and she sat up.

"The kid is here." Shu said,standing up. He slipped his hand into Kyara's and they both walked in. Daichi was sitting on the seat next to the hospital bed that Mizuki was on. Daichi was holding the baby in his arms. "She's so cute!" Daichi said.

Mizuki smiled. "Dunno what everyone was going on about, that was pretty easy." Subaru 'tched' and shook his head. "You squeezed my hand so hard that I'm pretty sure it will be forever damaged." Mizuki scoffed.

"Man up,you big baby!" Kyara laughed and looked down at the baby. It blinked and stared at Daichi. "Hi, Dāku,I'm Daichi. I'm your older brother!" Kyara squealed and took a photo on her camera. Shu yawned again. "Can we go?" Kyara laughed again.

"Come on, Daichi. Let's leave Zuki and Subaru here, it's time for bed." Daichi shook his head. "I want to stay here with Aunt Mizuki and Uncle Subaru!"       "No can do little man, me and your Aunt need some alone time with Dāku." Subaru said, ruffling his nephew's blonde hair. "I've got an idea! Why don't you go home with Mummy and Dad, and I'll stay here with Aunt Zuki!"

Subaru was lost for words. Shu laughed and picked up his son. "We'll come back tomorrow, I promise." Shu walked out with Daichi on his shoulders. Kyara hugged Mizuki before leaving. "When you come back, can you bring some KFC?! Hospital food is crap!!" She heard Mizuki yell.

Kyara sat in the second Arkysa mansion living room, watching Dāku chase after Daichi. "Apparently, Tougo's finished writing his will." Mizuki said, munching on a cupcake. "Finally! How long did that take?!" She didn't wait for an answer. "He's been writing it since, 1712!!" Mizuki simply shrugged.

"Dāku! Leave Coal alone!" Dāku was pulling Coal around the room by his tail. Daichi scooped up his sister and walked into the kitchen - where his father and his Uncle were. Mizuki put her head on her sister's shoulder. "What's up with you?" Asked Kyara.

Mizuki shrugged and yawned. "Dāku still not sleeping through the night?" Mizuki nodded and shut her eyes," Wake me up in an hour." Kyara smiled and put in her earphones. Shu and Subaru walked in with trays of food - Daichi and Dāku following after, holding Rina and Coal respectively. Shu smiled and nudged his younger brother. Subaru picked up his wife and placed her on the opposite sofa - throwing a blanket over her. Shu sat next to Kyara and pulled her closer. Daichi rolled his eyes and sat with his sister - watching TV.

Subaru looked down at Mizuki. When she slept, she looked so peaceful and calm. She looked like she was - almost - normal. Subaru froze as Mizuki fidgeted in her sleep.

Across from him, Shu pushed a stray piece of hair out of Kyara's face as she slept. She tensed slightly and turned over in her sleep.

Arisu was asleep on the sofa when Kyara walked in. She looked at her mother and smiled. She got onto the sofa next to her and hugged her mother. Arisu stirred. "Ky?" She asked, groggily," What are you doing?" Kyara didn't answer just simply hugged her mother tighter and closed her eyes. "Kyara, leave your mother alone." Her father said.

Both mother and daughter raised their heads. Akiro was by the door, holding Mizuki's hand. Mizuki smiled and ran to Arisu. "Mummy, it was great! Daddy took me to a big roller coaster and we went on it and Daddy screamed and he-"

"Whoa, calm down, Zuki. I can't hear you properly." Arisu said, sitting up. "It was great!" Mizuki repeated,flopping down onto the sofa next to her older sister. "Did you see anyone else you knew?" Arisu asked as she begun to plait Kyara's long blonde hair. "We saw Tsubaki and Daddy saw someone from work!" Mizuki replied, happily.

Arisu raised an eyebrow at her husband. "Tougo." Akiro whispered as he shrugged. Arisu nodded in understanding before turning her attention back to her daughters. Mizuki was waving a packet of sweets in front of her older sister's face while Kyara tried in vain to ignore her.

"Alright, who wants to help me make some cheesecake?" Both girls jumped up and ran into the kitchen. It took a while and the oven exploded a few times but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed. Finally, the entire family sat in the garden, eating the cheesecake that had been made.

"This is delicious girls." Akiro said as he took another bite. "It was all Zuki, really." Kyara said," I was the reason that the oven exploded." Mizuki's mouth fell open and she stared at her sister. "Did you just... compliment me? Are you feeling alright?"

Kyara turned her head away," Just shut up and eat your cheesecake!" Akiro and Arisu both laughed and watched as Kyara stuffed a spoonful of cake into Mizuki's mouth.

Kyara bolted upright. "Are you ok, Ky? Oh god! You're crying!" Shu exclaimed. Kyara reached a hand up to her eye and realised she was - as Shu had said - crying. Her eyes locked onto Mizuki's as Subaru pestered her the same way that Shu was pestering Kyara. "Cheesecake?" Mizuki asked and Kyara nodded. Mizuki wiped her eyes and got up, pushing Subaru's hands off of her shoulders. "Who wants to help me make cheesecake?"
