Shay runs across the house and into the kitchen to grab a bagel before he leaves. Although, as he enters, he hits the counter and falls to the ground, making a loud bang. Erin runs over to him and helps him up as she laughs.
"Mom, that wasn't funny," he smiles.
"I don't know, that was pretty hilarious!" She teased.
"I'm in a hurry! Baseball tryouts are today and I'm already running late!" He grabs his bagel and car keys.
"Shay," she says.
"What, Mom?" He says, annoyingly.
"Good luck, I love you," she replies.
"Thanks, mom." He hugs her then runs out the door.
Shay was an avid baseball player, the best on the team, but he was unable to do it for the past few years because of conflicts with grades. He's since then brought those up so he is very excited to get back into the sport.
As the day progressed, Shay was very happy. He and Addie were on great terms and he was just about to make the baseball team.
Up until his journey to tryouts, a man ran a red light and T-boned Shay's car, rendering him unconscious. As Firehouse 51 showed up, Chief Casey ordered most of the unit to spend their time and efforts on Shay, and to make him a priority. As they did so, Matt gave Erin a call.
"Hey, Erin. I'm calling because, ,well," he started, "I think you need to get to the hospital as quick as you can, it's Shay."
"I'm on my way! What happened?" She said, but in the background, she could hear an explosion, then the line went dead...
