Erin and Jay left the hospital and went home and spent the rest of the night with their children (plus Addie). Addie was basically their child by now, she'd always been around. It was evident Shay was in love with her, and, to be honest, it's amazing he was able to charm her; however, he did have the charm that his father had and he used it the same way on Addie as Jay had on Erin. It was kind of creepy and brought a strong sense of deja vu unto them.
For a few days, everything was normal. Shay would come and go to school, taking the twins with him and coming home with Addie in his arms, sitting in the living room working on "homework" and watching tv. Additionally, they would play with Noah and Nicole and have some fun with them, but they did normal teenage stuff.
Erin and Jay decided they were going to keep the pregnancy a secret, which was an amazing idea to them, up until the moment when Shay came home from school that Friday with Addie in his arms. As they walked in, Erin was walking down the stairs, and as she was smoothly walking down, it seemed as if her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she fell. Shay, with his quick reflexes (from years of baseball training and years of playing games with Jay), caught her in the nick of time and laid her down on the couch. He'd searched high and low for Jay after that but could not find him anywhere.
Addie finally convinced him to call an ambulance and as they arrived, Erin slowly gained consciousness. She didn't want to explain what had happened to the young couple so she told them to stay home and that she would be fine and that Jay would come get her. Shay refused. He was way too attached to his mother, some could call him a "mama's boy," but he hated the fact that he was, he just couldn't help it. The Halstead's always loved the Lindsey's full-heartedly.
Shay sat in the emergency room with her and had left Addie to watch the kids. After an hour and a half, just before the doctor saw them, Jay had finally shown up. He was busy helping his brother build an extension onto his and Natalie's house.
Erin and Jay debated with their eyes if they should tell Shay what it was about and as they were about to, the doctor finally came in and took a look at her. Shay got to find out the hard way that his mother was pregnant. The doctor came in and asked a bunch of questions about her previous cramping, fainting, and bleeding. Shay found this was really weird to ask until the doctor mentioned the baby and it hit him. After Erin explained her pains and etc., the doctor frowned, furrowed his brow, and said it was going to be alright. He took some blood tests and told them to sit tight while he figured out what was wrong.
A few hours later, the news came back. The doctor walked back into the emergency room with a bunch of other staff members and ordered her to surgery immediately. Jay and Shay didn't have a single clue what was going on, it was almost dark and they were still at the hospital. On top of that, she was being rushed into surgery and they didn't know why. They didn't comprehend a single word the doctor said, only that he said it would be a little bit before they came out and that they should go home, get freshened up and come back in the morning. Jay refused but insisted Shay went home and relieved Addie of the babysitting. He complied.
Shay got home and waited anxiously for a text or a call. Addie tried calming him down but was unsuccessful. She had to wish him good night and head home because it was almost curfew and she couldn't be late.
Shay sat there in his silence. Addie had put Thea to bed and sent the Twins to their rooms, but he didn't have the same luxury as them.
He thought about how they kept it a secret, like he didn't already have three other siblings that are significantly younger than him. What is one more sibling? He loves them all, he'd have loved another sibling. Why didn't they tell him? He was baffled. He struggled to fall asleep so he sat there in his thoughts for a few more hours until his dad finally called him.
"Dad, what the heck? What's going on?" He got a little flustered. "I'm sorry, is Mom okay?"
"Shay, she's gonna be fine, it's all okay. I'll explain in the morning, get some sleep. She's in recovery room now resting. She's okay, they had to do an emergency surgery as you know, I'll explain later. Get some sleep, I don't want to wake her," he explained.
"What happened? She's pregnant?" Shay interrogated.
Jay got up and walked out of the room, he didn't want to wake her. "Yes, well...no." He sank into a chair in the hallway, "She was. The doctor said she had a molar pregnancy. Not really sure what that is, you can google it. It's basically a tumor that grows like a baby, it's made the same way as a baby..," Jay started.
"Okay, we don't have to talk about HOW it was made!" Shay stopped him, sort of disgusted.
"Well, it had to be removed because if it's let to grow then it can be dangerous to the mother, to Erin. It's not alive, it wouldn't ever survive, it's not even a baby, really. She's fine. They caught just in time. We're lucky you were there to catch her and call an ambulance. You saved her life, Shay," Jay praised.
"Dad, I did the same thing you would've done. So she's okay? How is she?" Shay said, nervously, begging for answers.
"She's okay. She's resting, she will make a full recovery. They said she can come home in a few days. Hopefully today," Jay replied.
"Thanks, Dad. I'm sorry I got a little flustered. I'm okay now. I'll be up there first thing in the morning. I will call Uncle Will in a few minutes and ask if he can watch Nicole and Noah and Thea. Addie and I will be up there in the morning, first thing. We will bring you both some clothes and some food," Shay insisted.
"Okay, son. Thank you. It's getting late, I'm gonna have to let you go." Jay tiredly replied.
"Okay, Dad. Sleep good, I'll see you in the morning."
"Yup, buh-bye."
The call was ended, and as he said he would, he instantly called Will, waking him up. Will agreed to watch the kids and insisted to know everything that happened. He was shocked because of how rare a molar pregnancy is, but the odds that Jay and Erin have had, that was nothing. That was more likely than them ever staying together, and here they were, happily married with happy "bunch."
Y'all, it's been a longggggg time. I am so sorry. I can't say I've missed writing. Or at least, I couldn't. And then I sat down to write this and realized, I did. I missed it so much. Thanks for sticking in there with me. Here is a requested update, a few years late but here it is. Thank you so much! Comment what you think below! Thanks!
