Escape...with him

I continued to stare at the crackling orange fire. It was night. The stars were bright when I looked up. We were in a clearing and every sound made me jump. I sighed and shut my tired eyes. I looked at Lei who was already passed out on the grass behind me. Great...how am I gonna escape fast while dragging Lei?

I quickly got up and stretched. I nearly fell as I got light headed and darkness crept into my vision. I regained control, I got up to quick and the blood rushed to my head. I heard a snore come from my left. I looked over and saw Zane sleeping. Hi red hair fell in front of his eyes and reflected of the fire light. I got admit, he does look cute...for a boy.

I crept over to Lei. I quickly remembered Zane's father. I looked over and saw him asleep too. Good. I shook Lei gently. "Lei, come on it's time for our escape!" I whispered/yelled. She opened her eyes and sat up.

"Hmm..?" She grunted. Her curly hair in a knot and her brown eyes half opened. The side of the face she slept on looked smushed like a Bassett Hound waking from a nap.

I rolled my eyes and spoke with more urgency. "Now's our chance to escape!" I said, noting the excited tone in my voice. Lei eyes went wide and grin was wider. I noticed a shadow blocked the fire's light.

Lei looked up and her eyes bugged. Uh oh. I turned around and saw Zane towering over us with his green eyes piercing through me. I flinched under his unnerving stare. There go's my chance at escape. I hung my head sadly.

"I know what you want to do...please take me with you!" He said. His eyes pleaded for me to say yes. I looked at Lei, who seemed as surprised as I was at his sudden comment.

I suppose...it would be helpful to have help, he doesn't look happy here. "Why?" I asked. He looked down.

"Because players like you always come and we do the same thing over and over, after the player escapes like you, a predator comes and kills my dad. I just want to come with you.. I-i don't want to g-go through this a-a-alone" he said crying.

My eyes bugged. How many times did he see his father die? I shuddered at that thought. I got up and did something unexpected, I hugged him.

He was surprised at first but hugged back and cried. It soaked my shirt but I didn't care. I had lost my father too but this boy saw his father die repeatedly. He pulled away after a while.

"You can come with us" I said. His green eyes lit up and hugged me tightly, he was slightly taller then me and my face was buried into his chest.

I blushed red and my stomach felt fuzzy. I just pushed away, pretending to act tough. I just hopped it was dark enough to hide my blush. "Don't get SOFT on me now" I said crossing my arms, blushing furiously.

He stood up straight and saluted me, his grin still plastered on his face. "Yes Ma'am!" He said. I just shook my head smiling.

I walked over to Lei and helped her up. "Let's get going!" Lei said. I nodded and Zane casted one last look at his father. Poor thing. We walked away from the camp.

We heard Zane's father screaming. Zane let another tear slide down his face. The screaming abruptly stopped. I squeezed my eyes shut. I'm sorry Zane. I opened my eyes and forged forward. Don't let the past get to you. Before I knew it I was wiping a lone tear from my cheek.

I turned around and saw Lei flirting with Zane. I grew angry but looked away. I turned back again and saw Lei kiss Zane. I looked away, silently wiping my tears from my eyes. Foolish Nina... Why do you fall in love?

I told them I needed to clear my head. I left them giggling and laughing. I sat against a tree and cried. I haven't cried like this since my father died.

{A/N~ I know you guys hate for making Lei kiss Zane... I know you probably shipped Nina with Zane but they might get together...if I feel like it. I felt the song above was suitable for this chapter about Nina}

I felt myself go down memory.

Younger me was holding my dad's hand. We were at the carnival. My dad wanted to go on a big and scary ride. I felt like something was wrong. My stomach clenched and my eye twitched. "Dad don't go on!!" I screamed out. He just looked at me chuckled. "Just wait here I'll be back" he said and he was boarded on. I cried as it shot off. Next thing I knew I was crying in horror as it was derailed at the top. It crashed upside down, making everything look like a blood bath. I cried as I saw my father dead.

Someone shook me and looked up through bleary tears. What happened? I looked up and saw Zane. Next thing I knew I was standing over Zane and he was clutching his redding cheek. I was angry at him.

"J-just leave me alone" I said, surrpressing a lump in my throat. I can't believe I fell in love with an idiot. 

I walked away, my hair swaying in the wind. Help my broken heart.
