Sadness vs Happiness

Okie dokie, so to start out, how many of you have felt sad, maybe even depressed, only for someone to come and tell you something along the likes of, "you shouldn't be sad, people have it so much worse than you." Anyone?

Well, what I don't understand is why people do this. They don't tend to do it for any emotions, other than negative ones. They may say it if you are scared, nervous, sad, angry, and whatever else.

But who's noticed that not one person will say it regarding to happiness? I'm assuming not only me.

Who's been happy about something, only for someone to come tell you, "you shouldn't be happy, someone has it better off than you." Ever happened? Not to me at least.

So why is it considered 'insensitive' to say it when someone's happy, but considered, maybe 'enlightening' for someone who's upset?

My main point is, everybody is entitled to feel however they want. I'm not saying if someone is sad, you shouldn't try to cheer them up. What I'm saying is, don't be an ass and tell somebody that what they are feeling is wrong.

Don't you dare tell anybody that how they feel is wrong, until you have walked in their shoes, and heard the thoughts in their head for the day.

It is perfectly fine to be sad, don't tell someone they are experiencing something that is invalid, just because maybe someone does have it worse in the world. Sure, almost everybody has it worse than somebody else, but why does it matter? It sucks that we don't experience the same lives, but you know what?

That's boring.

So how about next time you feel the need to tell someone who's sad, that they don't have the right to because 'someone has it worse.' Why don't you go tell someone who's happy, 'someone has it better.'

Might as well make two people feel invalid, right?

Let people feel how they want. If you see someone who's sad, try and cheer them up by telling them a joke, or give them a hug, or tell them something nice.

Don't make them feel bad because of how they feel.

(And if you see someone who's happy, enjoy the fact that someone is happy! Have some fun with them, let them enjoy this feeling that doesn't last for long.)

If you read this, thanks for reading, take this seriously please.

XOXO
