" Thanks Tony! " Jewel, Kendall and I shut the car doors behind us as Tony drove off to park the car in the garage.
First day of school had felt way too long. I could barely sit still in my desk, I wanted to go ride so badly! It felt like I was going through a riding withdrawal after a whole summer of riding everyday, only to go back to school for 6 hours and do work. I had already gotten an assignment in english, a two page paper on what I did this summer, but that I would try to do later.
Whinnying made the three of us run towards the family paddock, where Onyx, Shadow and Gypsy were waiting for us. I had text mom to tell one of the grooms to put her in there if that was okay. It seemed easier than walking down 3 paddock lengths when she could just be right here for Kendall to see.
" Omigod! Sweetheart! " Kendall squealed when Gypsy came galloping towards the fence. The black mare was gorgeous and super tall, at least 18 hands, since she was part Clydesdale, but she wasn't as heavy in build because she was mixed with thoroughbred. She had two white socks on her forelegs, two stockings on her hind legs and a star on her forehead. Her hooves had a bit of white feathering and were about the size of Clydesdale hooves, maybe a bit smaller.
Gypsy whinnied loudly and almost reared when she saw Kendall.
Onyx and Shadow stood safely off to the side. They knew better than to get in the way of a mare who hadn't seen her owner all summer.
I smiled as I climbed the fence and stroked Onyx's face. He sighed happily and laid his chin in my hand. I reached forward to pet his velvet soft ears.
Jewel stood beside me and stroked Shadows neck. The gelding bobbed his head and lipped at her bag, making her laugh.
I leaned back and looked around Jewel to see Kendall wrapping her arms around Gypsy's neck. The mare leaned into her and nickered happily. I smiled at them. " She really missed you "
" And clearly you missed her " Jewel said as she giggled.
" Are you coming with us? " I asked Jewel as Onyx nudged Shadow playfully. They took off, chasing each other, but Gypsy stayed with Kendall.
Jewel shook her head. " You two go, Claire was going to come over so we could help each other with homework "
Kendall and I both groaned.
" Homework, already, it's only three, you have plenty of time " I replied.
Jewel shrugged. " Your right, but unlike you I plan to pass the eleventh grade " she teased before hopping off the fence and started walking towards the house.
I rolled my eyes. " Overachiever! " I called.
" Underachiever! " She called back.
" You walked right into that one " Kendall told me.
I hung my head. " Yep, I'm losing my touch... " I replied.
" Save whatever ' touch ' you have left for Icky Vicky " She said as we hopped off the fence and made our way to the house to change.
" Trust me, it's been saving up for a while...I can't believe she and Nate had to go enter the Puissance competition... " I complained as I crossed my arms.
Kendall pulled out her phone, probably texting her mother to ask where she had left her new tack. " Why do you care about that? " she asked.
" Well...it's a long story... " I replied as we walked inside.
.................................................................................
" I can't believe your entering the Puissance competition! " Kendall practically yelled, spooking some birds out of the trees that stood on each side of the trail. We were headed back after an hour of cantering down the boring trails, aka, the trails with no jumps. Kendall hadn't wanted to risk anything with Gypsy's new lazy jumping technique, which I understood, but when we got into the indoor arena so Carol could check out Gypsy's jumping, I was giving Onyx a good workout.
