" You didn't clear it once? Not even once? " Jewel asked me as we ate our eggs and bacon the next morning.
I shook my head and pulled up the sleeve of my Wings Girls Pullover Sweater, exposing my black and purple elbow.
" Gross! Did you ice it? " She asked.
" About fifty times last night... " I mumbled as I sank my teeth into a piece of toast.
" Do mom and dad know? "
" What is this? Twenty questions, no way I'm telling them that this happened while I tried to clear a seven footer because I want to win a Puissance competition they don't even think I can win " I replied, my face falling.
Onyx and I had tried and tried and tried last night to clear the seven footer, but he wouldn't even attempt to go over it. He kept stopping or running out and each time, I ended up on the ground, or tangled in the poles.
And falling onto hard poles hurt a lot more than falling onto face foam bricks...
" So " I spoke, eager to change the subject. " How did touring Mr. Moody go last night? "
Jewel shrugged, standing up to clean off her plate. " Actually really good, he wasn't as mean as you described him "
" Oh please, if he wasn't he would be out at the barn right now helping his poor horse " I scoffed.
" Who said he isn't? "
Her question took me by surprise. " Um, he did, didn't he tell you anything? He said his horse is better off without him when clearly she isn't "
Jewels eyes suddenly flickered back to the kitchen door and I immediately froze.
" Um, morning Felix " Jewel said as she pushed an extra plate beside me. " Help yourself "
" Thanks "
He had one of those raspy early morning boy voices, which sent a shiver down my spine, though I still didn't turn to see what he looked like, instead I just kept my head down as I stood up and scraped the rest of my plate in the garbage before putting it in the sink beside Jewels.
My phone suddenly went off and-hoping it was a text from Kendall, I quickly opened it, but it was only from Tony.
" Tony's going to be here in 15 minutes, so lets go feed the horses " I told Jewel as I started walking towards the door, practically dragging her along my the sleeve of her black Boxy Hooded Jacket.
" Wait! " She hissed in a whisper. " Felix has to come with us remember? Mom and Dad says he will work with us doing barn chores "
I rolled my eyes. The last thing I needed this morning was to have Mr. Moody moping around me while I tried to spend some time with my horse, something he seemed to have given up on.
Jewel smiled as she turned back to Felix, who was picking at the eggs he had piled on his plate. " Felix? "
He turned in his seat. " Ya? "
" Here at J.O.P.S we go feed and check our horses water before we go to school. Do you maybe want to come? "
" Or would you rather pick at our food the whole time? " I replied, wincing when Jewel elbowed my ribs.
" No, I'll join you, I'll meet you in there " He told us before turning back to face his plate.
I shrugged and again began pulling Jewel towards the front door.
She didn't speak again until we entered the barn and went to our horses stalls.
Onyx was laying down, snoozing peacefully.
