Chapter 3

After my dad was arrested, me and Matt, and Matt's broken arm moved to Granny's house. She was upset. My dad was her son-in-law and what person wants their daughter's husband who's now dead to go to jail for abusing his own kids? Her GRANDCHILDREN. That's right. No one.
Life was good with Granny Johns. She was fun, and nice. She was giving us something we hadn't had in a while. Love. When the " love " started it felt like it was imaginary. I mean the last time we had love was like 3 months before mom died.
When we found out we were going to live with Granny, it felt like weight was lifted off my shoulders. Matt and I were in that foster care system for only 1 month, but it felt like an eternity. We literally switched homes every 4-5 days. Freakin' crazy. I just wanted a home for us.
Why weren't we with Granny sooner you ask? Well because Grams was on a 6 week cruise to Australia and didn't have a phone. So that's when the foster care began.
Foster home one was the Johansen's. They were a young couple who wanted kids, and offered to care for us for a couple days while they were waiting for their baby they're adopting in June. They were nice people. Caring, loving. The whole package.
Foster home number two was the Roberts. An old couple. Like 60. Lucinda, and Grant were awesome. Sometimes Lucinda would tell us stories about her travels from when she was young. Also Grant was a great cook. His burgers? Absolutley amazing. Then we were taken to a new foster home about 4 days later.
The best foster home was Joanne. She was a forty year old woman who always wanted a child. She had 5 miscarriages and was ready for kids. We were with her for 3 weeks and then We went to live with Grams. However we did have some fun times.
Sometimes Joanne would make fun of her husband Dan. She would jump around like a little monkey. It was funny. She'd make me the most amazing food, and taught me that every star is different in a certain way. One could be bigger, one smaller. She was the best parent a girl could have. Well besides Mom.
It was the best day ever when we moved into Grandma's house. When we moved in I slept in my moms old bedroom. I found all her old stuff. Like her old clothes and jewlery. What really stood out though was a necklace I found. A necklace I found inside her old journal.
The journal was so old. Like it was all tared up and had dust all over it. Then when I opened it, I realized something. The journal dated back to 1996. That's when my mom was my age. I opened the page. I opened the page to a world of stories my mom never shared. And it was going to change my whole life forever.
